23rd March 2008 is Easter Sunday isn't it!

23rd March grand prix L2S practise day at Oran Park.

I'm going and want to see you there!

Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us now alive will ever see.

The last time it was this early was in 1913, and the next time it will be this early will be in the year 2228.

Hey Guys -

I've never taken a car to a track before and wondering whether the upcoming 'Arrive and Drive' Off-Street Track Day

(15th March) is worth going to?

It's non-competitive but that's fine by me, it sounds OK but they do allow you to really put the foot down, right?

I'm moving interstate middle of next month so this'll be my only chance to drive at Oran Park before it dissapears.

Cheers

arrive and drive is awesome for your first day...

yes you can boot it but dont be like the tool porshe driver that was at my first arrive and drive/track day and plough your pride and joy into the wall....lol

remeber you are not a race car driver!...yet...lol

you get to learn about how your car behaves at high speeds while having someone on site to call the ambulance and fire brigade should you crash. at private practice its pretty much everyone for themselves...

gotta love that ghost town feeling of oran park!

Wayne - yeah mate turn up and have some fun.

while you cannot have passengers (i.e. some track days allow you to have instructors which is the best help and advice you'll ever get!!) you can still get a feel for your car at speed. just remember, warm up, cool down.

do not go hard right away.

build up to speed and level of confidence

drive to conditions.

watch out for other cars, if there are faster than you, dont stress and let them pass at safest point (straights)

and have some fun!!!!!!

I wish I could make the 23rd

Thanks mate - that sounds ideal actually. Totally agree about not going stupid, one of the primary reasons I want to do this is to get familiar with the car (only had it six weeks) and find out what it's limits are in a safe environment.

I'll be impeded by my tyres though - they are only 5 weeks old but are complete shit in my opinion - although I havent driven another Skyline, so I have nothing to compare to...

Can't recall the brand but yes they were cheapies, I bought new wheels immediately after buying the car and figured why not go for cheap tyres lest I was going to burn a lot of rubber rather quickly until the novelty wore off

They are absolte *shockers* in the wet, so I pray for dry weather on the track day...

Anyway, 95% probability I'll turn up for this one!

yeah i know that feeling...he he i had shitters on mine when i first got her...i now have 19" rims with 9.5s on the back and 8.5s on the front. much better! but i still want a set of lightweight rims (buddy clubs or similar with semi slicks) for my track days... too expensive chewing up the street tread! plus i like to get well sideways and you see all this rubber in smoke form and its like just burning money!

No worries Chris & thanks for the advice.

Whilst I want to push the car fairly hard I'm certainly not going to go beyond my comfort zone... I'm terrified of damaging the car - I've spent too many $$$ and countless days in the past six weeks improving it only to go put it into a wall :P

I really want to see what the handling limitations are on my '34, so what better opportunity than this?

Yeah, wouldve been good to see you on the day mate... I'm certainly going to do my best to be at this one as it'll probably be my one and only chance at Oran.

Cheers

you working public holidays and on sundays :(

what's the fee for L2S? and it's just a form yeh?

contemplating the 23rd, finally got my butt and got my brakes done so i need a track day :(

$130 for the practise day.

$92 for the licence, you can get a one month temp L2S CAMS licence from a club executive useable right away, then send in the form and the one year licence will be sent to you in the mail.

.

I'll be there on the 23rd March for the grand prix circuit!

There is another grand prix circuit practice day on Tuesday the 1st of April!

All you people working on Sunday come to this one.

well that was a fun day, saw some interesting cars and good to see the skyline contingent was well represented despite losing numbers to wakefield today :D

there's nothing quite like the sound of a race prepped RB26 on boost....

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
