The rejection of the proposed Victoria Park grandstand by the Adelaide City Council as a result of a vocal campaign by nostalgic minorities is a backwards step for Adelaide and South Australia as a whole. It is a short-sighted decision based on fear and not reason.

The Victoria Park grandstand is a visionary project designed to provide permanent and superior facilities for the award winning Clipsal 500 event. Such a project would enhance our competitiveness in being able to retain if not bid for more world class events, which add to the vitality but also to the economy of our state.

Furthermore the proposed grandstand would facilitate the renaissance of Victoria Park into a premier horse racing venue, something which the under-utilized and tired facilities of today are incapable of achieving. The Victoria Park grandstand would allow Adelaide to put its best foot forward.

A permanent structure on the parklands is not a threat to our unique parklands, but rather an enhancement. Had it not been for similar visionary projects, we would not have Adelaide Oval, the zoo, Adelaide University, the Museum and Art Gallery amongst many other structures built on the parklands, which have become valued additions to our city. The proposed Victoria Park grandstand is no different.

As such, I as a progress-loving citizen of Adelaide or to the state of South Australia hereby declare my full and un-wavering support for the Victoria Park re-development in its full and original form.

Good work Howie!

Having worked on both the initial proposal that was rejected by ACC and the demountable structure that is now proposed, it is such a shame that this development has been stopped. There's no other city in the world that has the potential to access so many major events from within 10mins from the CBD. To have the ability to walk to the cricket, tennis, festival centre, convention centre, and what would have been the horse racing and motor racing, would have given such a boost to the life to the city. It is of upmost importance that Adelaide is city centric to keep moving forward. Thing is, the SAJC will probably end up moving out of Vic Park altogether which means the eye-sores that are the dilapidated buildings along Fullarton and Wakefield Rds that are there will be there to stay.

All this because of the very influential East End residences that consider Vic Park as their own personal back yard.

p.s. jeez that's a pretty old image you have there Howie! i'll post up a slightly more updated image if interested.

Also Nick. Would love an updated render if you have one mate!

Btw, so far we've got 100 sigs on our first day!.. our aim is now 1000 signatures before the 23rd December (weekend), it'll be going in the Sunday Mail - hopefully this will give the gov a mandate from the people.

No worries. I've forwarded the petition to the entire office so wait for the ball to start rolling. Unfortunately it looks like the online petition is limited to the single IP address so they'll have to sign in from their home computer since i've already signed it.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
