What Events Does Sau Vic Have In The Next Few Months For A Less Experienced Driver?

two decent bolts should be sufficient. i have 4 in each extinguisher. i would not be a fan of just 1 bolt. and just to be sure, you are using nuts and bolts, not screws? lots of people screw them in and get knocked back.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of 1 bolt but its a street car that *rarely* sees the track (due to $$$), I'm using the rear footwell so one bolt, no nut!

The rear seats have a bolt at the bottom on each side that secures the rear seats in, I've got the Fire Extinguisher with 1 bolt (well its now an allen-key like bolt) going through the extinguisher then securing the rear seat.

I am just using one bolt in mine, with an oversized washer.

The bolt that is used to hold in the rear seat, in the footwell.

Same here, only question is have you done AASA / CAMS events with it before? Just been paranoid, last thing I want is to get knocked back after driving to Shepparton.

You won't get knocked back at DECA. I dare say 99% of people that have them mounted in the rear footwell are only using the 1 botl (Just as I do, and I've done plenty of DECA's)

4 bolts in the 4 holes of the mount into the floor pan and tunnel. why? because 4 will spread the load better and there is no chance of getting knocked back at a track day. bolting it to the seat mounts would drive me nuts if the seat is on rails as i cant see it not being in the way.

anyway, seat bolts are rather large and would do the job fine, and as al said, an oversize washer is a good idea, however as you said it could be the reason you get knocked back at a cams day. it all depends on the scrutineer you get and weather you drive a datsun ;) you will be fine at deca.

I have done an offical CAMS track day with the same one bolt mounting method and did not have any issues. I know Snowy used the same method for years, when his car was more street than track, and he never had any issues (as far as I know).

The one bolt setup your describing is the same way most of the motorsport guys do it, and have done at CAMS L2S events for 4+ years. This is how my car / snowys car runs at Dutton Rally with two extinguishers (one each side).

Basically if a scrutineer can grab the fire extinguisher and give it a shake and it doesn't move, you pass! So one bolt can do this and get you a pass, but what ryan is saying is correct, we all 'should' mount them better, and if a scrutineer does take a closer look then they would probably be within their right to knock you back. Bottom line is you will be fine for DECA and most of the time you will pass L2S sprint days. Just make sure that I can come along and see a metal bracket fire extinguisher mounted securely enough that I can't shake it loose (move the bracket). This is what I advise my scrutineers to check for.

Ryan - They are talking about the rear seat foot well (rear seat mounting point) not the front seat, so seat rails aren't an issue.

If we were all to rock up to a C3 race meet with this mounting system, I imagine we would all be going home early thou.

Or you do what I "maybe" used to do and when presenting for Scrutineering take the extinguisher out of the holder and keep it in your passenger seat. That way you can hand them the extinguisher to check the date (the main thing they want to look at) and if they ask where it is bolted just point and then they can't "shake it around" and complain. They will just look at it and say OK.

Thats what I might have done for years and years without a problem :P

(This was for the 1 bolt rear seat footwell jobby)

Understood with C3 events, thanks for the information there, just wanted to confirm that I'm not doing something stupid by using only 1 bolt, and I don't exactly intend on real racing :)

Ryan, there is 1 bolt on each side securing the bottom section of the rear seats, ie. just behind the driver/passenger seat, under the rear seats, there is a bolt that secures that bottom cushion in, that's where I'm bolting too.

Due to the way the Fire Extinguisher is designed I've drilled the top / bottom hole out, the middle section is where the hinge is so it can't be drilled there, as long as the bolt is tight it should be secure :banana:

      Im not entirely sure exactly what or where its leaking from, he started to pull the boots to swap to my new tie rods + ends and it just vomited fluid, so he closed em up up, swapped the rod ends to the old rods and let me know so I can figure a solution out, im guessing its all origional as as I passed 103k miles earlier this year im sure its just in need of a full overhual/rebuild anyways.    If i could just yank it off and be good it wouldn't be an issue to ship it out and wait for the turnaround but the guy I work with doesnt really have space to keep my car for a week or two at a time, would rather drop it off and have a replacement ready to drop in

      What do you mean by "seals"? Internal hydraulic seals (ie, is it leaking PS fluid?) or the rack boots that close the rack onto the tie-rods? Because the former is a rebuild, and the latter is trivial that you or any nearby mechanic could do. Dunno about the cowl. Just buy what you think is required and get anything else you find/break afterwards. Wing? Dunno. Don't like R33s enough to pay attention to them. Mirror glass is just glass (on the surface that you want to polish). Go for it.

      Hello! Long time lurker, been using the forums to address concerns and questions from afar for a while but I've struggled to find some answers so I guess its about time I made an account and formally asked some more knowledgeable people, since finding local skyline owners is hard (and shops that are knowledgeable or trustworthy to work on 'rare' cars are non existent out where im at, as skylines are quite uncommon to find in the wild around here). So the main 3 questions I have, 1: Steering rack has blown seals, well.. they kind of hold but they are not sealed properly anymore and as my R33 is my DD, i cant exactly rip the rack out and send it off or attempt to fix myself. As most refurb ones are around $1,100 or more shipped, and I have other things I need to work on around the car, I was seeking clarification on whether an S15 rack will more or less bolt right in, and whether a common mechanic could do any other required work to get it to fit. I ask, as I've found a supplier than can sell a manufactured as oem one for around 400, if not I'll likely order a used one from Jacks JDM, and take a risk on the seals there. The second question i have is that im replacing the front wiper cowl and have planned to buy 4 new clips and a new center clip but wasnt sure if there were any other clips that would also need to get replaced while I was at it. Given im sure any that are there now will simply break when I remove the old cowl... Last thing would be a fairly straight forward question, i think. If I manage (strong if, finding one has proven to be a pain) to find a R33 GTR spoiler/wing will it require much modification to bolt to a S2 R33 GTST? I've read the bolt patterns dont match but otherwise would bolt in, only options I have found with much luck is China stuff on ebay and carbonetics, which has a nice $650 shipping fee... so if anyone has any pointers where a US chap could locate one that would be great Random side question as well, the mirrors as I understand are mirror glass, and as im planning to polish my windows from water spots and surface scratches, i was hopeful cerium oxide would be fine for them too, as my research points to, but clarification is always nice. Any pointers would be appreciated, and while I have scoured the internet for answers if I missed a prior post somewhere that may answer these directly please point me towards it, as i must have simply missed it. I have seen a post here or there that has mentioned it, but I usually get 50-50 answers, or half answers... I dont have a lot of fab experience or mechanic experience, outside of hydraulic and pneumatic stuff I did in the military and with how hard it is to source stuff in the US, id rather not wing it and hemmoraghe money lol.       Yep, there's a very minor drift left that happens a few seconds after letting go of the steering wheel, but not enough to bother me. Enjoying the car still!
