im wondering what is the next setup for my R33 GTR

here's my setup so far

i have APEXI AVCR boost controller...boost reaches 1.5 bar, lowering the boost after a interooler pipe remove the other night

stock garrett twin turbos with ball bearings (i think)

APEXI SAFC

TWIN HKS SSQ BOV

BLITZ Exhaust

APEXI POWER intake

stock ecu

(I haven't opened my engine and check the cams...and inner parts, i haven't added performance parts yet, this is what iv gotten when i bought the car from japan) with the HKS BOV, what could be the limit of the boost of this setup???thnx

Power FC if you can get one.I think ive seen a few for sale in the for sale section.

Haltech are good but a bit expensive.

As for clutches a good upgrade is a ceramic cushion button. Can handle up to 300ish kw and are good for daily driving.

I have given mine a bit of a caining, a few passes down the quarter.Still feels like it did when it was new.

1.5 bar boost and stock turbos ???? I wonder how long she is going to last. If I was you, I would back off the boost to under 1 bar until you replace the turbos .

Stock R33 GTR turbos are not ball bearing .

Yep next thing i'd be doing would be a computer and a tune, most people round here use PowerFC's and regardless of what people tell you APEXI do still make them and they are readily available for the Rb26.

Also if you are unsure of what turbos you've got best to keep them under 1bar for the time being, as the others have said...

i haven't touch the settings oh my avcr, the whole setup is from japan, it reaches to 1.4 and 1.5 bar from my avcr, could it be possible that the cause of high boost is because i removed the muffler? i only left the resonator?? i already checked my turbos, its a GARRETT M24 A/R42 , i tried to spin it with my fingers and it stops about 2 to 3 secs...so maybe its a ball bearings? were can i find the power fc ecu? and how much?

So, because your car already appeared to be running '1.4-1.5 bar' when it arrived from Japan you assumed it was safe to continue doing so?

Im surprised your turbos haven't combusted and lunched your motor

Just out of curiosity, when a turbo blows itself to bits like your suggesting this one could, what would "lunch" the motor?

Is it possible for the turbo particles to get through the intercooler? It doesnt look like theres alot of room for bits to get through!

(i dont know a great deal about turbos blowing up.. thought this might be a good place to ask  )

Search is your friend but ....... when a RB26 ceramic exhaust wheel turbo goes it is generally spinning fast enought that it sends ceramic bits everywhere including back down the exhaust manifold and potentially into the engine through an open exhaust valve - hence everyone's warnings. The stock turbo's are known for doing this with increased boost and age.

Cheers

    • I’m interested in the carbon diffuser fins and Toshiba MFD screen replacement if they’re still available.
    • @GTSBoy yeah i know it was not the "great" idea but it is and option...but i think i will stay on no BoV rather then trying to make it work with "half" this and that. But that GReddy FV2 is cool...i like that you can make it like stock if you want (and have/make the custom pipes) For other thanks! it was alot of information. But for the sound...a dont rly "like" both of them...specialy if they are loud...but if i "must" choose i would rather have little whooosh rather than sutututu with no BoV....BUT that is what is i gonna get. So for the all info i gather. In my case:  No BoV is not that bad cuz it is stock...and iam used to put N/clutch right after rpms are around 1000 so it should be ok...just need to avoid "big" drops. But i do not have the engine in the car so i do not really know how "bad" or good it is. But as i had that little test drive it looked ok. The atmo BoV should be worse car would dump to much fuel specialy between the shifts...so without proper tune/ECU i dont want that. BUT with that...car should drive ok with no problems right? (i do like there is less piping wih this solution) 🙂
    • Usually an RB20 won't stay in closed loop idle anyway. The O2 sensor gets too cold, stops swinging.
    • They aren't, but it depends on what interests you about an R32-R34. If it's the front engine I6 turbo that tunes well with a manual transmission an E92 335i 6MT is so incredibly cheap. You can get a super clean one for 20-25k USD tops. Put an LSD in it, tune it, have fun with it. If it's the general idea of AWD + turbo and a manual transmission the 996 Turbo is absolutely much more expensive, it's less practical but it's also basically a complete track-ready car from the factory. At least the Mezger doesn't have heaps of oil control issues. And in the US the 996 Turbo and R33 GTR are roughly the same price these days. 996 maybe a bit more now that the hype has abated for old Skylines here.
    • these are not the same
