Ive just noticed the same problem on my car. I had a look around at all the fluids and noticed that my coolant was low. but i havent filled it yet. gotta buy some first thing tomorrow morning. then ill tell ya what happens. I have a 32 GTR so things could be different.

I had a stuff around with my car today and yeah cant find the problem. the hicas fluid was low but yeah the light is still on. so maybe its just a faulty door thing. I noticed when i turned the interior light on an off a couple times itd go off. but that stoped working. If ya find the problem let us know

Cheers

I've got a similar problem with my car. Red 'door open' light and the interior light flashes on and off, happens more over bumps, or under hard acceleration. I'm assuming ive got a loose wire in the boot, which runs from the boot to my alarm. i've seen my red door light dim and fade, so its not like a switch flicking on and off - but more like a bare wire earthing somewhere.

Good luck finding your fault, have you tried pulling apart both door switches? Also check if you've got a bonnet-pin switch (possibly fitted by alarm installer). Finally check boot switch which is inside the lock mechanism, in the boot lid.

so r33's have a boot switch in the actual lock itself????

...k i give it a look..

coz i did notice that my boot light stays on!!!

i can c the light beam onto my rear window at night...

so i had to remove the little wedge globe..

and ive had it out ever since, plus my interior light is always set to off..otherwise the light will remain on forever..lol

and ive had this problem for a while..

maybe my sub going off knock a wire lose or sumthin...

i checked the bonnet alarm switch, seems fine, and i gave it a clean wit electrical contact cleaner..

and i checked both door switch pressed them in and out, took them off etc..

no good, door light remained on, and interior light will still remain on aswel...

but i tried finding the switch for the boot but no luck..and no one knew either...

but yeah..thanks

but i'll take a look =)

does the boot lock have a wire coming out of it or anythin?

and its on the boot lid on the actual lock on the rear panel???

more information on this would b great..

thnks

From what i understand, if you open your boot, the boot-switch will be in the lock mechanism on the boot lid (not on the car chassis itself) You'll notice a black rubber tube on the right - the electric wire runs through there. This is what i've been told, havent had time to pull mine apart yet.

i would check the two door switches first, as they are whats connected to the light on the ceiling. if the ceiling light is flashing on, its because the switch is opening on one of the doors and you have it set to "door".

set the interior light on "door" and have a play with the rubber buttons to see if they are working or not

alarms usually have their own boot/bonnet switches that are in no way connected to the doors.

alarms usually have their own boot/bonnet switches that are in no way connected to the doors.

Hrmm every car i've had, the alarm has always used the same boot switch. The alarm taps onto the common 'door' circuit, so that when the circuit goes to ground, it triggers the alarm.

Bumble_Bee - have you tested your alarm to make sure its working? Try arming your car with the windows down, then unlock the door an open it to see if the alarm sounds. I wouldnt be surprised if your alarm isnt working at the moment which could be of concern!

umm..ill check it out but im pretty sure its working..

um.. i did found two wires under the boot lid carpet..which go to the lock..

and the black rubber tip on the end is kind of worn... :|

is it spoz. to have any metal exposing on the tip of the boot lid lock?

because it looks like on mine that the black rubber tip/cover has worn off...

but can anyone tell me wat these two wires to do?

This is what mine looks like. You can push a screw driver in to simulate the boot closing, and should see your boot light turn off.

Does yours look the same as mine? There is a black plug half way up the boot, if you think the lock is dodgy, disconnect the plug.

lockedvp2.jpg

yeah, mine looks the same..

but y wedge a screwdriver into the lock? lol

i dont think the lock is earthin correctly on mine...

so mayb if i could figure out how and y?

i could fix it..

mayb i should try earthin one of the wires...

but i unpluged the harness but nothin..

problem still there...

wat do u think the earthin point is on the lock?

yea..i was thinking that but me and my mates still recon it that in my boot lid...

wen u unplugged ur harness does ur interior light/door light turn off??

When i put my screwdriver in the latch, the light turns off.

I imagine if you unplug the harness, the light should turn off too.

However if you have something on the 'door circuit' which is grounding, even if you unplug the boot switch harness your lights may stay on, becuase the problem is somewhere else, not there.

k, defiantly found the problem...

THE PROBLEM!!!!!!

the guys who fitted my alarm did some re-wiring coz of the features of alarms these days..etc..

well on the driver door switch..theres 3 wires...anyway i never took the panel behind it off before..

anyway..i had a look and found that they soldered two extra wires which go the back of the car..dont no wer too?

possible the rear ilt/shock sensors???

and way i tampered wit it and taped it up better..and now it seem's all good..for now..lol

so it was the extra new wires connected to the drivers door switch...

i have no idea wat that switch in the boot lid does..lol

HOW I NOTICED THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

and i only really spent time on it today..coz of last nit..

my alarm went off like 4 or more random times...by itself..there was heavy rain and strong winds..but who knows..anyway then..

today at work i saw my car..just go off...for no apparent reason..lol

wen it wasn't raining or any type of wind...

and dis-arm itself and did it like 4 times in a row..and all random times...etc..

and so to stop it i hand dis-arm my alarm..and my car was unlocked for the whole day..

anyway i got into my unlocked car after work and realized for the first time in like 4months when my key was in the ignition..that the door light WASN'T on..lol

then i drove for like 10mins on my way home and noticed the light had re-appeared!!!!!!! :)

anyway..i opened my door at the lights and re-closed heavily with anger..lol

then i notice it disappeared again..wat the???

then again like 5mins after..like going around a round-about...

i saw it re-appear once again...

closed my door heavily once again..and it was gone..

so i def. knew it was my drivers door switch/ or the wiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and it was all that time..the wiring was loose...lol

and getting knocked around in the "b pillar" panel and the interior trim...

so that wat was setting my alarm off and on..the wiring earthing or re-connecting a live circuit...

and hence my alarm thinking someone opened the damn door!!!!!!!!...lol

i tht i was in need a of a new battery..but my battery was pretty new..so yeah

this all came to me today...

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!

So if anyone get or has a similar problem like i have had....

i hope this helps!!!

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
