hey Madbung, why are bananas so good for you? can we hear some more of your thoughts, i'm v interested. excuse my ignorance please. I thought banans were a fattening food, like pasta? although this is contested (It's v confusing). I am trying not to eat animal proteins for the last month as I am worried about getting cancer and eating more beans, quinoa, etc and lots of veggies and salads and I have noticed some weight loss but it is much easier to lose weight eating lots more animal protein. I don't want to bulk up at all, I just want to eat healthy and live a long life so I try to avoid synthetic products. I find all of the advice very confusing and hard to know how to treat your body right - I mean you can change your house, your clothes, your job, etc but you have to look after your 'temple' (lol in before everyone calls me a hippie) because it's the only one we have. Is it ok to have a restricted diet for a while (6-8 months) or can this cause lasting damage? I know I have asked a fair few questions but I hope some responses can be put forward.

also NickR33 keep up your fitness efforts, good on you. Keep up the motivating self talk and focus on a goal outside yourself like a holiday or something. Don't dwell on your physique because everyday you are investing in your health by working out. I'm inspired by you, great job pal.

Are you sure all 8kg of it was muscle :P

When you put on muscle, some fat usually comes with it...

You'll always be able to power clean more than you can clean and jerk.

Lol yeh no, when I say 8kg of muscle mass I mean I have put on about 5kg since I started but have lost a fair bit of fat, I am much more toned. Personal trainer worked it out as roughly 8kgs of gain, but you're right in saying not all of it would be muscle.

When I was taking protein shakes, I must have put on about 8kg in 3 months...scared the shit out of me how fast I was gaining...but then I realised half was fat. So now I'm trying to work off that half lol. And I'm scared to get back on them because I much prefer the lean, athletic look to the bulky bodybuiler physique I started to develop. Though I think in part that had something to do with me not running at the time. Maybe running + protein shakes will avoid gaining the bad kind of weight?

And as far as foods being carcinogenic...f**k that, you can get various forms of cancer from walking outside your house these days. If you're going to get it, you're going to get it. Happens to people who eat healthy and exercise their whole lives, unfortunately.

humans have been eating meat since the beginning of existence... we've only been farming and processing grains for the last few 1000 years (not a very long time from an evolutionary stand point) hence the argument against large amounts of simple/processed carbs

eat like a caveman, get lots of exercise and sleep, avoid processed foods, smoking etc... that's about the best you can do IMHO... oh and stop worrying... stress is a killer and can stop you from losing fat etc

It can be done guys :) I've dropped 7kg's in 8 weeks. High protein/good fats during the week and then carb load after my Friday night weight session though to Sat night with good quality carbs like pasta, breads, rice. I can even eat yummy stuff like Pizza etc. I eat 6 times a day. It's basically a CKD for shedding/keeping off fat and maintaining muscle (and building in small amounts).

I also to 2x 2-3 hours Ice skating sessions for Ice Hockey which helps with the cardio I guess (I HATE Cardio)

Breakfast - 3-4 eggs scrambled, 3-4 lean peices of bacon

Snack - Protein shake with 30ml flax or a handful of walnuts

Lunch - Chicken or Fish or Meat with steamed vegies and a handful of nuts later

Snack - More Nuts or more meat

Dinner - Chicken or Fish or Meat with a nice salad w/ hard boiled eggs, cheese and lean bacon added (I don't like dressing)

Snack - Nuts, protein bar or anything that fit the model.

On my carb load I'm consuming up to 3000cal of good carbs alone, man it's heaven lol.

I've had my cholesterol checked and it's very good. My digestive system feel really good (less gas etc) and I feel tops, holding less fluid etc.

This is by far the most maintainable eating plan I've ever been on and I'm loosing weigh quite well. Mind you I don't drink anymore though and I avoid sugar full stop so yeah, there are some things that have to give.

Eating plans don't work for everyone though, I've tried a lot and had little success but this works for me.

With regards to fat gain with Protein Bird, check what kind of protein you were using. Was it a mass gainer type high in carbs or a lean type? It's a simple formula - calories in, calories out. If you're smashing the shakes but not using the emery, you're going to gain fat, just not as easily as carbs and fats.

a lot of those supps are full of sugar and other crap Birds... my old man is a PT and into all this stuff, he recommends a protein supp that doesn't have any of the other crap... I don't take it because its expensive and tastes like arse lol

edit: I can get the name of it if your keen

adzmax, for your lunch do you go home and steam your veggies etc? how do you do it at work? or is it a frozen meal? 7kgs in 8 weeks is v impressive.

at the risk of possibly being banned (lol) can i ask anyone tried BodyTrim or the like where they say you can lose 5kgs in 5 days?

you may lose 5kg but its almost certainly mostly water... which you will put straight back on

there are NO magic cures... speaking of water, drink plenty... and stay away from fizzy drinks, even the 'diet' ones

Adz plan he posted is great, I do a similar thing just without the protein shakes... I carb load Fri night and Sat as well... soooooo good I'm drooling as I type

Yeah adz, show us your sexeh

Ive got the same prob as Nick and dare i say, that fat phag Birds. Got a layer of fat over what I would assume is an awesome set of abs. Ive ditchedaround 12kg in weight over the 6 months but put on plenty of size. Im training 6 days doing 1 muscle group per day (great home gym), I walk most days (6km) and hit the bike for 10mins on a pretty high resistance (10) on second front and 7th rear. The gut is dissapearing slowly, just gotta keep at it.

I drink beer and eat pizza on weekends, sick.

f**king german by the looks of it LOL.

Just restarted the gym part of my training last week, good god Am I sore.

I usually run about 70+ KM a week, will this be hurting my strength growth substantially ?

On my

Agree - I've got two types, one for before bed with just protein negligible carbs e.g. musashi 92, and another for post workout which has some carb (simple sugar) which helps get an insulin spike needed after working out. E.g. Musashi bulk.

nee-san, won't running that much ruin your knees?

Something I need to go see a specialist about really as ive averaged probably 3000+KM a year since I was younger early high school, I'm 21 Now

not a single injury/ feel fine but I get the feeling it might catch up with me eventually.

On another note.

Who wants to make me a workout plan :w00t: ?

    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
    • You are all good then, I didn't realise the port was in a part you can (have!) remove. Just pull the broken part out, clean it and the threads should be fine. Yes, the whole point about remote mounting is it takes almost all of the vibration out via the flexible hose. You just need a convenient chassis point and a cable tie or 3.
