I don't follow iifym, just use it's calculators.

I'm not sure how you can do something too literally though. Cals in vs cals out.

it's only my take on things and suggestions. Everyone has their own ways.

While it IS as simple as 'cals in vs cals out' it's also much more complicated than that. Can't go through the day making your calories up with tablespoons of sugar, butter, and whey protein can we? Don't think it would work the greatest.

It was this part that lost me:

Macros are easy, knowing them allows you to eat anything you want really.

I hadnt been to the gym in 3 days and had KFC and maccas. But I'm still in a deficit leading up to my holidays

Here is a before and after of 1.5 months following my apparently terrible unbalanced diet of brown rice or steamed veggies w/ chicken mince, egg whites and bacon, and occasional steak or protein shake. If I'm doing it wrong, then wrong works for me. For the record, I continued to gain strength during this period, just slower than beforehand.

Forgive the shit photos, they don't quite do anything at all justice.

You've just contradicted yourself in saying its more complicated than eating sugar all the time, then say how the wrong way works for you.

I always said to an extent. (being realistic, no one I know eats sugar, butter and protein) the more refined your targets are the better results you'll usually get.

We only suggested you could half your protein and up your carbs. Might let you enjoy those naughty things more often.

Youve done a good job.

FYI I lost 14kg in 3 months all whilst gaining strength from lifts. I was a fatty.

I meant that cals in cals out is how it works, but what makes up those cals - or as the debate is - what makes up the carbs/protein will make a difference.

My way lost me 4kg in 1.5 months, so yeah again even if it's 'wrong' - it worked for me so I'll stick with it if only coz it's effortless now.

I type this with one hand while eating a banana and cinnamon muffin....coz I need moar carbs it would seem :P

Stick to what works for sure! We never said its wrong, just that it could work out better for you.

you'll still have to trim back that protein If you start upping the carbs, 1gP = 4kcal, 1gC =4kcal

So you're still consuming the same amount daily, just refining it. You'll be full of energy

1kcal = 1000cal :P

Yeah cutting back protein is easy - just stop shoveling steak down my throat.

It is actually a kcal, people just call them cals.

ok so I think we're both correct though I was wrong in my thinking lol. Apparently:

1 kcal = 1 Calorie = 1000 calories

Difference is the upper-case C. Dumbest shit ever.

Whatever lol

Anyone else cutting yet? I'm farken hating it. Not doing cardio though cause I'd rather die. ~1800cals a day atm, aiming for 1kg loss/week for 6 weeks..

Done cutting, just maintaining now. I won't give advice coz I'm wrong hahaha. 1800cal sounds a little bit low though I'd think, but honestly I have no idea coz I didn't bother counting cals until I was done cutting

I'm down to 82.6kg now.

Still eating similar stuff but just less of it. Have also tried to cut out 'some' of the junk but still have it every now and then.

FFS there's nothing wrong with Troy's diet... he's making good progress and his diet looks pretty balanced... healthier than 99% of the populations anyway... where are the back/leg shots though mate;)

If you guys lifted as much as you agonized about macros...

I'm trying to lean up a bit.. but the workouts that go along with a caloric deficit I find boring and unfullfilling... and the lack of carbs makes me grumpy

but my wife just sent me a pic from 2 years ago which has cheered me up... basically I look like a fat shit lol... my body comp has changed dramitically over that time... I never bulked or cut and have stayed approx the same weight but I look completely different

slowly changing body comp might not be the quickest way but if you have the patience to be consistent it certainly works... no counting calories, no fancy supps

hahaha I can't take a photo of my own back easily :P plus I'd say it's a little disappointing at the moment given my lack of specific training in fears I'll piss my SIJ off again :( but I'll get something for my build thread anyway now that you've said something

We never said it's wrong, just could be optimized if he wanted to. Just suggestions in response to his post about being unsure about it.

How many carbs are you consuming during your cut? my reasoning about optimizing it was so life can be bearable! Cranky is no fun at all?

How much does your workout change on your cut? and why? I'm not picking either, I'm just interested cause you lift big usually.

I carb cycle... so on training days I eat more, on rest days I eat hardly any... I'm not really that grumpy, just have that slightly annoyed feeling all the time lol

compared with preparing for powerlifting meet, where I was nicely full most of the time... I'm more relaxed with a tummy full of food:)

My workout changes as very hard to lift in above 85% of your 1RM on a calorie deficit... also I wanted to back off the heavy stuff for a while and up the reps, to change it up a bit, give my joints a rest etc

Also to target some of those bodyparts that are a weakness or lagging behind a bit

I just miss the total body exhaustion that a heavy compound lift session provides... I don't mind training for a pump but it's not as rewarding in terms of stress relief

    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
