Hi All,

Anyone got some suggetions of places to go for a first date? Not looking for a nightclub as we want to be able to hear each other speak. Want the crowd to be aged between 25-35. We both live south of town but I was thinking of places in the city, North Adelaide, Unley, Norwood or down at the bay. I also have some friends visiting from London soon who I want to show around so I'm open to all suggestions. Can you give me an idea of the atmosphere, music & crowd. Midweek suggestions as well as Fri/Sat night.

Thanks.

If its a nice warm night you can't go past Cafe Salsa at West Beach.

Outdoor dining at the beach is always good for a first impression.

Head chef Marco is one of the best cooks in Adelaide.

Tell em the Landlord sent you.

if youve got cash to splash the grange restraunt in the hilton but when i say 'cash to splash' i really mean 500-600 bux for the two of you and thats just the food not including before drinks and during meal drinks.

if not, the queens head just outside of town is awsome. very tame, good bar and the food is amazing!

damm man, expensive taste.

just go maccas drive through then sit on the grass and feed the seaguls :laughing-smiley-014:

Thanks for the suggestions. Wasn't necessarily looking for a restuarant as opposed to a place to hang out at and have a few drinks. Cafe Salsa sounds good. The GTR is STILL off the road - awaiting the PFC to come back from Japan since November - so we'll be going in the Peugeot.

Oh... and $500-$600 on a first date... not likely

+1 for Elephant Walk in Nth Adelaide (Melbourne St) Great place to hang out, drink, Chat

Alternatively, if restaurant is ok, Medusa's at Brighton, followed by sitting down by the beach. Food is fantastic, outdoor dining, then if ya like the girl, down to the beach :P

I know the Elephant Walk, been there a few times. Thanks for suggesting it (and Andy) as I had forgotten about it. There is a similar place on King William Rd called Spats*. Good place for a nightcap/coffee/icecream before heading home.

Thanks guys. I now have some idea of where to go.

Lol ahhh memories of that place.....i was with my gf and my freind who was with this chick friend of his...and i took all four of us to e. walk and the chick was like...f*kk offff (funniest look on face). Was the funniest thing  Didnt even try set them up but turned out that way.

Either way, nice place to take a girl to.

Also +1 for windy point drive/lookout/cafe.

You have to be kidding, its not that expensive

check out the menue here

The hilton is very over rated and not worth the visit. In my opinion it is trying to live off of a reputation that is no longer deserved. The food is OK (but no better than OK) and you can find food to match in many local PUBS. Whilst the hilton employ some top cheffs, most of the staff that prepare you meal are little more than kitchen hands (who like to call themselves chefs)

How about the old lion, good food and night club atmosphere , then cruise down to the beach for a nice walk.

The windy point resturant is a litle over priced (star light resturant) and booked out for a months ahead and you must like seafood , (last time me and the missus went stopped and had macca's on the way home after) . LOL

the Palae down semaphore would be another idea and right on the beach for a walk after meal.

+1 for somewhere simple. I find dates at restaurants where you're forced to get to know each other over a short meal difficult and stressful. Go for a cafe/restaurant with views.. least you can look out over the city or over a beach if you run out of things to say ;) Best of luck.

For Breakfast - Najjars Cafe, North Adelaide

Pancake Kitchen

Lunch - Hahndorf Pub/Beerenberg Strawberry Farm

Adelaide Zoo, Botanic Gardens, Museum, Art Gallery

London Tavern, Under the myer centre

Evening - Skye Point Lookout/Windy Point/Mt Lofty

- Drive in movies

- Glenelg boulevard

- House of Chow/Imperial Peking chinese

- Bar, Gouger St

Been ages since I left the house let alone a date but if you want to have less noise and a bit of time to think and appreciate the conversation, those are a couple of good bets.. and if they say the way to a mans heart is thru his stomach, u can say that to a womans heart u got 3 or 4 wheelbarrows full of pancakes... they become something like the tardis

-D

*sigh* i really need to get out more bwahhaaha

I agree. I wasn't going to have a meal on the first date. Just drinks and nibbles and maybe icecream later. Less pressure and less $ blown if it turns out that you don't really like each other that much.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
