Hey man,

nah i dont have an aftermarket fuel pump..

What would you recommend??

Yeah I have access to an RB26 head too.. and will try and get that for the other build, but for now, I will have to get this motor working.

And yeah there is no point having this turbo, manifold etc if i am not going to use it.. So I may as well have some new shiny bits on the engine.

Any other suggestins that I should get for a bit of poke out of the RB25..

I donno what I can hope for, but I know this turbo can produce a lot more power than the stock internals will ever handle..

Has anyone seen one of these turbos on a rb25det before?? or any engine for that matter??

Just in case you wanted to know what i am talking about here is a pic (mobile phone cam) next to another mobile just to get an idea of the size.

Cheers,

Maka.

Jeebus! that exhaust housing looks twice as big as the one on my new turbo!

Mate, you need to get a fuel pump if you plan on mods like this.. should really have been one of the very first things to do! I'm running a Bosch 044 intank, got it off ebay for ~$215 delivered and Hyperdrive installed it along with the required fittings and rewiring for a little under $250 if I remember correctly..

Can you get any more info on the turbo? is there a little plaque with some numbers and stuff somewhere? I'll take a guess and say LAG CITY but when it does comes on boost you will sh~t your pants :D Post a pic of it and any info. you can find on it, in the Forced Induction forum and someone should be able to help you identify it and its' potential. Once you know exactly what it is you can troll through the RB25 turbo upgrade thread and see if it's been used before and what you'll need to do to extract/withstand the power of that huge huffer :(

Did you get a dump pipe and oil/water lines with that setup?

Basic things you will require are fuel pump, ECU, injectors, fmic & exhaust.

Things that will need attention once turbo is on and tuned are stronger clutch, stronger diff, better brakes and better suspension. You may have a lot of this stuff sorted already ;)

Cool, yeah I have heard of a few ppl using the Bosh 044 pump.. Think I should be able to get one of those somewhere, otherwise I recall a mate telling me that he was using a Porsche 911 turbo pump on his car, which was putting out 536 on the dyno. SO i think i might look into one of those perhaps too.. Will the fuel lines be an acceptable size? Or will they need to be upgraded too?

Yeah I figured that turbo wil be a lag monster, but meh, I like the adrennalin of something like that coming on boost.. I know the feeling just from a mates car which is a R32 GTR with 2 gt35/40's comes on boost a bit late, but when it does, its sweet.. hehe.. I have nto had a good look at the plate on the turbo yet, but i know the guy told me it is a T04, as he bought it brand new, and never got around to fitting it. SO yeah I got the kit, which has all the gaskets, the turbo, gate and exhaust manifold. I am getting a dump from him too, which will just need the turbo flange replaced, but is a 3" dump. so that should be ok I think. I am going to pick up the whole kit on friday, so I will be able to inspect everything further..

So far the car has a fmic, and a 3" exhaust.. It has the stock brakes so far, but I have ordered some slotted rotors for the front and rear. I have the Bendix race pads in it, and I think i will just get some new ones fot the new rotors too... The take a bit to warm up, but once they do... It stopps. hehe The gearbox, and diff are still standard, but I have always been planning to rebuild those as well.. The clutch in it is a Extreme 12puk I think, or maybe 13puk.. not sure.. but yeah when I got it was told that it is good for 500 horses, so I think that will be up to the task.. Got my clutch pivot replaced with a Nismo one as well.. I have Bilstein shocks with HKS springs in the car now too.. only about 2 months old, before the engine let go..

Far out, I love the look of the turbo, and the housing, and far out I want an external wastegate, but maybe I should put the TD06 on to run the engine in, and get the new fuel pump, injectors, and ecu sorted before I put that system on.. The TD06 I bought as a kit too, so it has all the lines, and stuff for a straight bolt on to the RB25.. Otherwise this rebuild will end up costing a few k over budget..

Cheers.

Hi guys,

Still rebuilding my engine, but now I have come to a point where I am stuck.. I got my Pistons all cleaned crack tested etc.. and same with crank and the rods.. But I am now tring to find bearings and rings.. They are all standard size, according to the machinist.. I have called up Veale's and they have ACL race bearings for standard size. and piston rings to suit.. But then I called Xspeed, and teh guy told me that the RB25det has 3 standards, and the bearings etc need to be matched etc etc.. Has anyone heard of this, or is anyone aware of something like this.. Where would you get your bearings and rings from??

Cheers guys.

Maka.

Maka, Depending on the number on the crank, which I believe represents the grind size, there will be a different standard size. If the crank has been re-ground then it will obviously be different to standard. I'd take it to a machinist and get them to measure the crank journals and specify the size you need.

Thanks Paul,

Will do that... The machinist I used is Danny at Performance modifications, in Ossie park.. But he seems to do V8's and stuff, so donno if he really knows what he is talking about when it comes to these engines.. will call him up, and see what happens.

Any recommendations of other machinists? or where to take the engine so it all gets matched up..

Cheers.

Yeah,

Just called him up to find out what he can do, and he recons that he needs a chart to be able to see all the sizes, and match them all up..

Anyone got this Chart with all the different bearing sizes etc??

Cheers..

    • Biggest thing is you're okay!   It sounds like between the accident, and the drive home, it was a pretty torturous trip again! On the bright side, you took the opportunity to enjoy the event more from the perspective of a spectator, than as an entrant!   Sad to see so much damage to the car. It really has taken a HUGE hit in the front end. If/when you choose to repair, hopefully the rails are straight (At least from shock tower backwards). Hopefully the extra cage coming through there has save most of the chassis rails, and HOPEFULLY saved the motor too. Best of luck when you eventually get motivated to start pulling it down to check it all out
    • Sounds more like what Brad said, that it's mainly transfer. What pad bed in procedure did you use, and did you replace/machine the rotors, or just swap pads?
    • The stutter is almost entirely in the pedal. I don't feel the brakes release and reapply as you would with ABS engaging but the pedal feels that way, without the brakes releasing. It only lasts for less than a second and the pedal is fine again. It's hard to explain, sorry.  I'll get under this weekend and just double check everything is tight. Fluid is at max where I left it.
    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
