Morning All,

Is there any negative affects of getting a bigger fuel pump than a bosch 040?? I've gone with the 023 which is apparently the big brother of the 040 (good for 800hp...when i get there hehe). The reason i ask is that i just did a 100k service on wknd + adjustable cams (the tuners kit through kudos). I put in the 023 fuel pump and when i took it for a spin as soon as it hits boost it starts spluttering. I also made the bracket drop about 1-2cm max so it would fit, could it be its too low in the tank now and struggling to suck the juice??? need help?

you can have a fuel pump thats too big

what happens is when you are sitting in traffic the pump keeps pushing fuel up to the rail

and then back down to the tank and keeps going around, it just heats the fuel up a bit

i dont think it would cause the problems your describing

^^^ lol

my younger bro has a 023 in his r33, works fine. The tank is an odd shape and you have to make sure you put the pump in the exact same position as the stock pump otherwise it will have trouble picking up, especially when your low on fuel.

We just modified the stock braket, which was very basic and just used big hose clamps to hold it on, but the side of the tank where the pump goes is very deep so just make sure you have the pump at the right height. Use a long metal ruler, or something along those lines to measure how deep it is to the bottom and use that info to properly install the pump.

u still have stock ecu man?

and how much boost were u runnin?

I have a Power FC which i plugged in. its the RB20 version (AP engineering) so it already has a basic map programmed as far as i'm aware but i havent tuned it yet. I also have an EBC but not on til next wknd as ran out of time so still running stock boost. I havent put in the fuel pressure regulator as i'm still waiting on a bigger turbo to arrive but i dont think that would cause any problems.

I think this may be the answer to my question I need a pump that will safly run between 320-350kw I was asking if the 040 would do the job but no one really answerd my question one dude said he was running a 040 which maxed out at 280kw. would the 023 be the better one or would it be to big? cheers

I just installed an 023 Bosch in my Subaru Liberty RS and found that i had to get the Fuel Regulator adjusted because it flowed at a lower pressure than the Walbro i had in. Took it to my tuner and he upped the FPR and its perfect again.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
