Has anyone looked into this? I want to put a 5 litre turbo engine in an R32 GTS-t but it's been suggested the car is too light and I won't be able to do it legally (in Qld). Someone else suggested the GTR as it's a bit heavier but I'm not sure if it would be considered a different model for the purposes of an engine conversion?

The other option is an R33 which I understand is quite a bit heavier than the R32 but I really prefer the looks of an R32 so I'd like to go that way if possible. If anyone has any information/experiences regarding this I'd certainly like to hear it. :)

Ring your state body and talk to them.

When your doing something to that level, there is a lot to look into so you'll need all the info from them to start with

I know you'd never get away legally here in Vic with a V8 in a R32 GTS-t, simply no chance

I'll definitely be consulting with an engineer before I take any positive steps; I was just hoping to benefit from the experience of members here so I can be armed with some knowledge beforehand. Surely I'm not the only person who's ever wanted to put a big engine in a Skyline?

Oh and FWIW it's not a V8. :)

It does tend to change, what someone might have done 2-3 years ago, might not get ya over the line today.

oo... i just say 5ltr and was big enough for me to post :)

I was chatting to an engineer ~6 months ago about various things and he said in the past 18months they'd stopped signing off on V8 conversions into Gemini's and all that type of thing (Bigger, heavier, increased HP motors) mainly on a "its just too risky" basis and with the way the courts are going i can kinda understand that point.

Doesnt help the punter but then not a lot does when it comes to cars and this country for some silly reason :)

....Oh and FWIW it's not a V8.

OK, you now have my undivided attention. How on earth are you going to fit a 5 litre engine into an R32 if it isn't a V config? And what the hell is it anyway?

Yeah now im curious, if its not a v8, what 6 cylinder engine is it to be a 5litre turbo engine

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
