Had an idea for a cruise the other day when I took the back road to Yarra Glen. This looks like an oppertunity to have a great drive through a 80kmph windy road with bush sourroundings which open up into an awesome view over the yarra valley.

The meet point: The Macdonalds carpark on the corner of plenty road and University Drive in Mill Park/ Morang South. There is a big shell service station at this meet point and a 5-6 car car wash too for those who need it.

Meet Time: 3pm, Sat. 16th Feb. We will be leaving at 4pm

Approx Cruice time: 1.5 - 2 hours one way

From the meet point we will drive down Plenty road to the ring road and continue towards Greensborough and through Eltham.

After we pass the suburbs, and as we pass through Kangaroo Ground the road opens out into an outback 80kmph zone through the bush with heaps of turns and hills. We will stop at Yarra Glen for some refreshments however I suggest that you have a tank full of fuel when we start as the petrol price here will be far more expensive. After a break at Yarra Glen, we face a 100kmph zone with open, flat areas (with the odd 90 degree corner) until we hit Healesville. Anyone who wants to stop at the Safeway there can pick up some munchies and a drink for the short little hop to Maroondah Dam. We will be stopping here for a while for a long break/ photos etc. There is a huge picnic area (with BBQs) and carpark at the dam if they're needed.

If at that stage anyone has any suggestions on where to go next, i'll be open to ideas. I know the road just past the dam is pretty cool to those who want to do some serious 80kmph hill climbing.

If people could let me know if they're interested in coming, it would be great.

If any more info is needed, just ask.

Bah, to many cops and slow moving cars on that road to have a fun drive on the weekend, and there is only 1 really "safe" overtaking zone in the whole stretch from Kangaroo Ground to Yarra Glen, and the cops usually place a speed camera right in the middle of it.

btw kudos to you 4 organising this but one point... you have just told any cop browsing SAU where to find us. pm ppl the meet points if they ask and hand out details on the day. :stupid:

You wouldn't be thinking of doing anything naughty or driving an unsafe vehicle on the cruse... ...would you???...

I recon that if people behave themselves and stick to the road rules and don't make fools of themselves we will get no more than 'double take' looks from the police. It's not the sort of road to be pulling handbreak tuns on (however fun it might seem), it's just a nice ride through some good ol' twists and turns.

This is my first idea for a cruise, and i'd be more into getting to know the community of SAU rather than organising a 'who can get there the fastest' event.

If anyone wants to know about the park I have found this link:

http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm

I haven't planned on going as far as the Black Spur, but if anyone is up for it I'm sure we can just play it by ear and head up that way on the day.

What you could do is contact the police and say iam orgainsing a cruise tell them where we start and finsh let them know about the meet points, They might just come to the meet up and see how people are behaveing. Its just a serctstion.

Just to let you guys know, there is going to be an AE86/RWD corolla cruise in that area on that day there as well.

Put me down as a maybe. Not sure if I'm gonna go with the ae86 guys or skyline group yet.

Looks like the numbers for the cruise are slowly stacking up.

Just to everyone is aware, we're not stopping in Eltham as on the map. I had to add a 'stop' into whereis.com to get the trail to lead through there. The only real scheduled stop will be in Yarra Glen. I have attached a photo pf the major landmark at Yarra Glen - The Grand Hotel. I think that'll be the best place to find a park and meet.

I have also attached a photo of the vew from the road about 8kms onto the Yarra Valley. Sorry about the crappy quality but is the best one I could find.

The most difficult part in keeping together will be between Greensborough and Eltham. After this it's basically just a 'straight' road to the first meet point. After that, we just need to follow the signs to Healesville.

Hey,

Sounds good, there are 3 of us interested in coming but we'll have to meet you guys at the stop in yarra glen, as one of us finishes work at 5 on Sat.

What time are you planning on stopping at Yarra Glen and for how long?

cheers

If we leave South Morang at 4, we should be getting close to Yarra Glen at about 4:45 or so. If the cruise numbers are up we might stop there for about an hour or so and grab a drink at the Grand. If you're coming from a while away, you might miss us.

Is there a possibility that your friend can finish work a little earlier? Chances are we will be heading back in the same direction too so if we're not at Yarra Glen, you can meet up with us at Maroondah Dam and head back with us.

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
