Oil Filling In Rb's....

there are threads on here that say you should over fill RB's due to their oil control probs... BUT there are also threads saying NOT to overfill them?

If your just street driving then filling it up to the actual full marker is fine.

If your going to be doing track stuff (ie holding high revs for extending periods of time) then over filling is a safe guard to your engine being starved of oil.

I'm led to believe this is a much bigger issue in gtr's than gtsts but on the other hand there are prolly more gtrs doing track work.

i think i normally put in about 500ml above the full marker and have never had an issue. (which is just shy of 5L's of oil if changing the oil filter at the same time) my oil capacity is standard also (stock sump, no oil cooler etc etc)

I accidently overfilled my engine (RB30DET, stock RB30 sump, no coolers) by about 500ml and all it did was throw it into the catch can.. I was freaking thinking I had suddenly developed massive blowby. Sure enough though, it filled half the catch can and stopped throwing any more out.

yeah, was wondering if it was a 26 thing to overfill it...

all the threads on overfilling seem to be 26 related

Im a slacker and dump the whole 5ltrs in. So over filled by approx 400ml.

With only a single 1.5mm restrictor and blocked rear there's no oil in the catch can just a slight film.

Only required for track work.

RB26's are 1ltr over filled if using the stock sump. Works a charm.

I would see no harm in doing the same for a un-built RB25 on stock sump, maybe a bit less, 500ml or so
