Hey I've done a little searching on the matter but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Anyway, my GTR is slow off the line, what sort of things do I need to add/change to give it a little more take off without having to dial up a heap of revs.

Although that is fun, its not so good on the street. The car just feels heavy off the line, should I just assume that because of the gtr's weight and the 4wd that it will always be heavy, or can this be helped in some way, like with a better flowing exhaust or something like that.

i got a lightened flywheel when i did my clutch and the ease in takeup at low revs was very noticable especially for normal day driving. it was a completely different car to drive. not sure if this what your after or if it is suited to you

wow thats interesting...I was always under the impression that lightened flywheels only helped in the higher revs..Thats the second person who reported better low end torque from the lightened flyweel mod

lighten flywheels help alot in engine response.

I know TODA do a really good flywheel...they come in many specs from mild street to outright race...So response has improved ...howabout low end pull...like take off without the big revs...better by a noticable amount right ?

GTR's will get that. The car is alittle heavy for what it is OR can be a bit lighter. Basicaly you feel the car getting "bogged".

Getting a good launch = rev the car to about 4000rpm + to get the turbos spolling and engage the clutch.

Lightweighted flywheel will help alot and twin clutch plate but I will go single Extra heavy duty.

you dont have to launch them hard to get off the line quicker, with a heavy duty single u should be able to bring it up to like 3k and then just ride it a bit off the line. Not as harsh on the various components that way compared with like an 8k dump and still reasonably swift... any1 else agree?

its kinda feeling where with the old flywheel when you just engage it bogs and doesnt want to go but with the lightened flywheel it wants to go....your expecting some lag but its just not there anymore. all normal street, carpark driving. maybe its the combination of the cushion button engaging better? mind you i did get adjustable exhaust cam and a light tune but the car is rediculously more responsive than before.

My experience with a lightened flywheel suggests it will rev faster but bog down more. I had a 240Z with a 8lb flywheel and it would rev so fast but you had to really slip the clutch to get moving. And a 240Z only weighs about 2/3 what the skyline does, of course without as much power. A lightened flywheel doesn't have as much momentum built up on the revs so there is less to transfer to the drivetrain when you want to get moving. Once moving you will feel the difference in acceleration.

I'm really curious on this too. The latest HPI Skyline special has an article on going 11 sec 1/4. It says to take your GTR to the rev limiter and hold it there, count to five and dump the clutch. Sounds like a drivetrain failure wanting to happen to me.

So do most folks here launch between 4-6 k revs? How much difference does it make on your 60 foot times if you really launch hard?

^^4000RPM is quite a bit.

1st time I was gettting use to my HKS twin plate, I accidentaly revved it and launched at 4000RPM and I was pushed back in my seat and cought up to the car which was about a car length ahead of me.

I was like "WTF! Geez! What the Hell! Then got use to it. LOL!

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
