What a load of sh8t!!! we, the consumers end up being screwed over every chance the oil companies get a chance.

oooh he lost patience, how fkn scary. FINE THE f**kERS TWICE THE PROFITS THEY MAKE FROM THE PRICE HIKES AND LETS SEE THEM LAUGH THAT OFF !!!

I agree!!! Its about time they had some real power and started handing out severe punishments to the oil companies equal to days worth of profits to screw them as much as we are being screwed!!!

Yeah... they're still using the same weeks old story.

I'm not truly convinced this is the real reason.

To me it makes no sense at all that a handful of failed catalytic units has this much impact.

Oh... all at the same time, mind you - And at different companies refineries as well.

Quite remarkable!

They would surely have some redundancy built into their systems in the event that some of their equipment fails?

I mean, this is a multi-billion dollar industry, not some back yard operation. The same problems still persist for this long?

Maybe they should, umm... fix it?

Perhaps I'm just too sceptical/paranoid, but I mean, come on.

Thanks for the link mad082.

you also have to remember that all the fuel companies don't have a refinery in every state. so in some states they buy fuel of another company. so if the company supplying has an issue then that will effect 2 companies at the bowser.

  • 4 weeks later...

I live in Mt Annan Sydney.. There's a Shell down the road about 5mins away.. Always out of V-power and sometimes unleaded .. sh*ts me to tears..

Then there's BP (10mins away).. sometimes get BP Ultimate.. if I'm lucky.. and finally Caltex.. mmm I'd rather not go there..

It's a real sh*t fight trying to get decent petrol.. where I live anyways..

they dont work full stop=google. use acetone...or even better some tolulene

maybe u shud move out of the sticks

*plays banjo* :D

LOL, if you think Kiama is bad... next month I'm moving to Tasmania!

Toluene hey? I'll look it up thanks

Yeah, its ridiculously bad this year.

I almost caved in and put some Vortex in... but 95 octane... meh, ptui.

The only servo within say 20Ks of me is a Caltex. Maybe I should start buying bloody BP Ultimate in 44 gallon drums :\

PS: I don't even bother checking availability at Shell anymore, it's pointless.

for sure man. i cant remember the ratio....but there was a thread about tolulene and acetone. tolulene has better results. using 91 ron fuel + tolulene it bumped it up to around 100ish ron.

research.

Yes I think I will...

I'll see if I can get confirmation that tolulene is safe, what ratio to us, price etc...

I was forced to chuck in some 95 octane today - still no 98 octane anywhere around here of any kind... fsck.

toluene is safe but it also burns more slowly, so it's good for raising octane but mostly for the safety aspect. the slow burn side of things makes your engine less efficient at making power (98 RON would give you more power than 95RON + toluene to bring it up to 98).

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
