Yeah I think that would be the next best thing to try if theres still valve train noise... as sticky lifters are fairly common. Personally I'd go with something like Nulon Lifter-Free if it was me but its up to you...

Goodluck mate.

could it be the ecu ?? some of the wires maybe ??

Doubt it. If the hoses to the inlet are blocked, one is the crankcase breather, so needs to be venting. Didnt you just put this motor in? Its definately lifters and not an ex manifold leak, they can sound very similar. Could try a compression test, as one of the valves could be sticky. I would be careful flushing the oil too much, unless you know that the turbo is fairly new.

crank case?? the cam covers have a breather if thats what ya mean i did just put this motor in yer it deffinaty lifters

it idles like a dog ??

Wait, you said your Oil pressure is 3/4 when idling hot?

That doesnt sound like a spun bearing...the pressure is way too high when hot. There must be something blocking the flow somewhere. Im guessing you can't see oil being thrown around when you take the filler cap off??

There's some galleries behind the oil cooler, and to the head that could possibly be blocked. It could be worth trying the oil flush next.

Basically I'd try to eliminate everything you can before tearing the motor apart.

ok this is the problem i came across and still no fix

i had a oil relocation kit on with a cooler and thermostat the thermostat wasnt opening causeing the oil to build up and no pump thru right so i have taken it off but left the relocation kit of the filter on so no more cooler

the pressure went down to a decent spot i also changed the oil filter

i then took all the lifetrs out i have two sets out of 48 24 were rooted so i cleaned them make sure they all work and then primeed them so when i put them in they would be full

put it all back together and the noise still happens straight up so its the tapping between the lifters and th valves

i brought this motor of a sau memeber ** not happy **

the head has being acid dipped cleaned and put back on the pistons in the motor were fine

im lost i need some help im selling the car the fella that is buying knows about the problem and i dont wnat a quick fix i want to give him the car in good condition

i have lined up a head that is in good condition but i dont wanna buy it and it not solves the problem

there is motor getting to the head on one side but only under load it use to flick oil out when i took the cap of now its got me stumpped

oil is also getton to the first part where the cam get bolted down at the front ofthe head yesterday i spent 9am till 6pm trying with no success im about to burn it anyone

can anyone help me

I gather you have never bled/primed hydraulic lifters then.

They ALWAYS tick and sound like crap until you take the car for a reasonable drive.

Well mine have and they have been done 3 times troubleshooting shit springs.

i have done them beofre i took them for a fair drive aswell i have lost power and im guessing this is because the valves arent opening fully

could it be from the springs

im up shit creek without a paddle

i have changed oil to the one they recommend i could get my other motor running good with 300rwkw but not this stock one

this is not a small tick aither it like the loudest disel car you have ever heard

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
