I think alot of ppls are speculating prices on the new GTR base of what it cost...

I think the sticker price on the day will shock a few ppls and will have a few wanting refunds for deposits after learning of the "official" price.

I cannot for the life of me, see the new GTR below $150K. More closer to $175K on road. This is the reality. sites like this and OS have generated so much interest in the new wheels that they will charge what ever the market will prepare to pay.

OZ. is a fairly small market and if the allocation is smaller than number of waiting customer, then we have a situation nissan wants to be in and I think this is going to happen.

So anyone say they will only charge this because it only cost them that, really havent bought a "specialty" $150K plus car.

Ohh the warranty will be on the same term as the Tiida, but you can bet your balls on it, if anything was out of the norm flashes up at the servicing time, you will be notify by mail to stick your warranty in the shredder. This is what the hi-po Euro do, reason why not so many are moded, and I cant see Nissan doing anything otherwise.

Couldn't agree more, its about time we all got a reality check on what the price of the GTR will be. Even a high-school economics student will tell you that talk of "oh, it costs nissan 80,000 to bring the GTR here so they'll sell it for 82, 500 because they're such nice people" is rubbish.

Pure economics: Nissan is a free-market company. Free-market companies always wish to maximize profit. If the maximum profit comes by selling a certain number of units at $100 000, they will do it. If the max profit comes by selling less units at $200 000 then that's what it will be. Given the mostly niche demand for the GTR in the Australian market, I'm betting my dollars on the latter of the two.

Yes Australia has a massive Skyline/GTR fanbase. Yes its raised the car into the spotlight and given free marketing. To Nissan Australia though, the majority of these people aren't the target for a brand new 11 sec supercar.

Car companies sell vehicles for what people are prepared to pay for them - that's why a Corolla has cost about $20K for the last 10 years.

So Nissan will flog the GT-R for what we are happy to pay for it - regardless of what it costs to build. If there are already 3000 expressions of interest - expect it to be at the highest price they've offically quoted or a bit beyond that i.e 150 - 165 K

That's the reality of selling cars

Their is 3 R34 GTR's currently for sale over $120,000 in AUS Link with another 4 in the $90,000 to $110,000 so how can you say a new R35 is worth $130,000

While I agree that the R35 is likely to cost more than $130,000 I'm not sure you can base your argument on the top end of the asking price for the R34 in Australia. I mean really, who is going to pay more than $100,000 for an R34 GTR in Australia these days? I think the reasons for asking $130-$150k are more likely to be those stated elsewhere, that the GTR is the target of a niche market only and to maximise profits Nissan will aim to sell fewer units at a higher cost.

I never said you said the warranty was bad. I said you said you thought a warranty was [/i]irrelevant[/i] compared to getting a car "at a fair price". When you're putting down $130K, I'd beg to differ.

You could buy the most immaculate looking grey import that's ever graced our shores, that's only done mileage from the factory to the dealership to the owner's home to the auctions to the boat yard to the compliancing centre to your driveway. It could be driven by a guy so mechanically sympathetic that he cries a little every time a part moves. It could even cost you $120K.

But if you got a car with a manufacturing fault and the engine blows up, with the resulting oil leak sprays all over your tyres puts you into a pole.....with your "fair price" grey import you'll be paying for the repairs yourself. And its not a $15K R33 GTS-t you're fixing in a market that's flooded with spare parts.

Aren't we being a little melodramatic here scathing?

I never said anyone should buy a $130-$150,000 car without a warranty. I was trying to make a point about Nissan blocking off market competition and that making the R35 pricier than if grey imports were available- and you've run off with the fairies.

How many new engines blow up and cause cars to smash into poles? For that fact, how many hand-built engines, constructed in laboratory-like conditions, stamped by one of top 3 Jap automakers- simply blows up from a manufacturing fault? If it did, that doesn't say much for the R35 then.

Of course a warranty should come with any new car, especially of this value. It's idiotic not to be covered. But i also think competition makes retailers think hard about the prices they're prepared to charge. Nissan aren't thinking on this one, they're practically monopolising it. I agree with you that they have every right, because there is next to no spares market for the R35 here, so there isn't much option for grey imports for the average consumer, much safe option anyway.

No doubt all this won't matter in 24 months. Many of us will be importing R35's for 30% cheaper than new, with spares available on our shores.

At that point i won't give a f**k about warranty. But until that time, i'll send every dollar i have to Nissan Oz.

Parts availability is no problem at all. Nissan Australia officially wont help but in the past as many of us have found out Nissan Japan price + EMS is often competitive or better than Nissan Australia's trade price for GTR parts.

If you have a container shipping arrangement then an new transaxle or engine assembly is no problems. Don't know what trade price is but retail on those is already widely published.

I have already purchased R35 GTR parts from Japan... nothing special but it's been done...

Im interested about programming the key in your back yard thing...........people have told us in the past about this type of thing with late model motorbikes.....we can train ANY key,second hand or new to suit an ECU...and i am not sure about other model nissans but i have a 34 gtr and i know how to train that key to suit the seimens box under the dash.....i assume that all nissans of this era have the same or very similar system...

The new NATS (Nissan anti theft) requires a unique code for EACH immobilizer before you can unlock the immobilizer and program the remote.....you think nissan will give that to you?????? Kinda like the original radio, but the serial number is encrypted, then you have to get the code based on that encrypted number....no amount of tinkering at home will change this.

Of course alot of the other non security based software will be cracked by tuners.

The commercial reality is that any smart business will look to maximise profit. I was reading the Wheels last night and it quoted the Australian head as saying "the Nissan GTR will command a price of $160'000". That confirms the Nissan has no interest in parity of pricing with other market but is purley interested in achieving the greatest possible result.

There is a second economic reality that Nissan are ignoring and that is if you do not set prices with parity ot other market there will be Grey imports. NO consumer in their right mind will pay more for any good if it does not have perceived value. When Japan can sell a GTR for $80'000 that same car will sell for $160'000 (there may be some differences). Most consumers with that sort of coin in their pocket have it because they are good business people. These people will look to pay the least amount for any service or good they buy.

I think most people could justify a price 30-40% higher than Japan but 100% higher is just greed and peserves no respect. It shows little reguard for the consumer and treats them with contempt. :domokun:

Perhaps this is why Nissan as a global company are in such a bad way??

Its especially worse if we receive the de-tune homo-spec! :)

    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
