A CRIMINAL gunned down in his car in a gangland execution was almost certainly murdered for revenge.

William "Willy" Thompson was implicated in the murder of Nik "The Russian" Radev, a brutal standover man and convicted drug dealer.

Thompson was also linked to murdered drug baron Jason Moran, who was shot last month in front of his children as part of Melbourne's underworld war.

Thompson was killed in a hail of gunfire as his sat in his car on a busy road near neighborhood shops.

It was the 17th underworld murder in the past five years. All remain unsolved.

A witness told the Herald Sun Thompson had just got into his car on Waverley Rd in Chadstone about 9.30pm on Monday when he was ambushed.

Thompson's car was hemmed in by a late-model Ford Falcon at the front and a van or four-wheel-drive to the right side.

A man got out of the Falcon and shot Thompson as he sat behind the wheel of his $80,000 Honda S2000 convertible.

The attackers fled and one of the cars was later found burnt out in Port Melbourne, where Thompson lived.

Thompson, aged in his 40s, had a short list of drug-related convictions.

The former martial arts competitor and nightclub bouncer recently turned to acting.

He featured in the low-budget film Nightclubber, which premiered at the recent Melbourne Underground Film Festival.

The movie is a violent depiction of Melbourne's club world, involving gun play and sex scenes.

Thompson's murder shares several chilling similarities with 16 other underworld slayings across Melbourne in the last five years.

Many have been connected to the cut-throat amphetamines market.

And many of the victims had been suspected of killing others.

Thompson was killed only hours before Jason Moran's father – alleged crime patriarch Lewis Moran who is facing serious drug charges – walked from jail on bail yesterday.

Det-Insp Graeme Collins, of the homicide squad, said it appeared that the gunman had been waiting in a car outside a nearby Red Rooster restaurant.

"It looks like it's been planned," he said.

It is understood Thompson's death is being investigated by the homicide squad rather than the Purana taskforce which is tackling several underworld murder cases.

Thompson's jiu-jitsu coach, John Donehue, said he and Thompson had walked out of a martial arts club together moments before the shooting.

Mr Donehue said Mr Thompson had been training under him for a year.

"He was a valued student, so dedicated that even if he was injured he'd come to classes," he said.

"He was a gentleman to all of us. I never expected anything like this."

Mr Donehue said his students went to the club last night to pay their respects and were planning a memorial service.

"He got on really well with everybody. He was just a really friendly guy," he said.

"It's a big shock. It's beyond shock. It's just heartbreaking for us."

Witness Michael Loeding, 32, said he was in his driveway about 20m away with his wife and friends when the shots rang out.

"Initially I heard two distinct shots and then another couple maybe 10 seconds later," Mr Loeding said. "When we realised what had happened . . . it was very eerie.

"We didn't know where the gunman was or what was happening.

"There was one guy hiding behind a car, people scurrying away."

After realising the danger, Mr Loeding said he and his friends retreated inside the house, but came outside when they heard the police helicopter.

"We saw the deceased man slumped in the car," he said. "I felt shocked and sick."

Toy shop owner Mauri Wolko said he arrived at his shop moments after the shots were fired.

Mr Wolko said he found a stray bullet had blasted through the window of his store, and was embedded in a children's poster that said, "How do You Feel Today?".

"Naturally I was very shocked," he said. "It's not the sort of thing you expect to happen in suburban Melbourne."

Det-Insp Collins described talk of links to other underworld slayings was "speculation", but confirmed checks would be made for connections.

Despite his limited convictions, Thompson was in underworld circles and had been named over the shooting murder of career criminal Radev.

Criminal information suggested Thompson may have had a "peripheral" involvement in the murder of Radev, gunned down in Coburg in April.

Thompson was believed to have struck up a strong criminal bond with Jason Moran – an amphetamines boss shot dead in a family van last month in front of his children at an Essendon football clinic.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Bad stuff in Glen Iris!!!!? Holy Shite, I live within spitting distance of Glen Iris.

I see Police choppers overhead all the time now. Thats all pretty worrying.

Maybe some sort of vigilante organisation is in order.

I think I'll form an citizens action group. Whose with me?

All I need to know is if you can swing a sack of doorknobs.

You people who live in 'upper class' areas freak as soon as something happens....

those of us who live in slummy areas (through no choice of our own) have to deal with this type of crap every day.

In fact, so much of it goes on, that it doesn't even make it into the press anymore.

If you want to be paranoid, then buy a scanner, and listen to what's REALLY going on around you.

You'd be suprised.....

:P

    • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
