blacksx - he wouldnt even be interested running on the falken's or the 595 rs'?

Yeah its a very quick car, regardless - if it were me I'd still enter and have fun!

I would love to have a go at this but I would be forced to go into Open class because my R32 Gtst has an RB25DET transplanted, and I would have my ass handed to me by the open class cars... Bugger.

Shameless plug: :)

This event sounds like a great opportunity for drivers in the Clubsprint class to use Federal 595RS and RS-R as they have treadwear ratings of 140 - 180 depending on size and are a pretty sticky semi slick tyre...

The bottom line is, that there has NEVER been division or a handicap system based on driver ability. "It goes against every funamental aspect of what motorsport has been developed on" Encouraging inexperienced drivers to pilot big power and inevitably not set up correctly cars above and outside there capabilities on a racetrack is a recipe for disaster

The entire emphasis on motor-racing isnt just about the driver or just about the car. Its a combination to see what talent the driver has to get the best out of the machinery that he is driving.

Here is another one for you; You are saying that drivers who are either paid to drive or paid for driver training are not allowed to run in both classes. Where does that sit Paul Kemal who i know a few workshops are asking if he can drive there cars for these style events... yes he races in a national class of motorsport (Aussie Racing Cars) and that does have sponsorship that supports the cars but he isnt paid anything to drive. This being the case, there shouldnt be any limitations for him to drive in either class?

Marty, I think you are speaking to a brick wall on the SAU forums. These guys know everything there is to know!

Maybe you should show them the way with Autosports!

Vote No.1 for Paul Kemal, Yes he is a Gun driver but he isn't paid a cent. It costs him plenty to drive in the series of his choice!

Well before you start slagging off SAU how about reading what has been posted on the matter. :D The people running the event have made the ruling. I dont think anyone on SAU support it or encouraged it.

Show us the way, by all means. Nobdoy likes to be in the dark :)

Some of you guys that are considering not running should have a good hard look at the tyres that you are able to run in the clubman class. You would be surprised how well you may go.

Some of you keep saying they are 'street' tyres :ermm:

And you say cars will not go faster than 'xyz' on those tyres

Well the lotus that I often drive does 5's at Wakey, 15's at Oran on those tyres :D

That would relate to 41's or 42's around the creek :)

One day I would like to put a good set of slicks on the thing and see what it could do.

The car is able to run in clubman :D

I have driven the Green Goblin a couple of times over the years and have found it to be a pretty good thing.

I think people are being silly if they dont enter because their cars are slow on "XYZ...whatever tyres". There is plenty of fun to be had on lowly street tyres. They may not offer the grip a semi slick does...but big deal. If you are running in a street class called Clubsprint then ?!?!? Just get out there and have a blast

I'm about 10 days away from confirming my ability to run. Not sure what class, i think i would rather put on some semis and see what ultimately me and the car can do. Dont care if im less competitive in the Open Class... it will come down to dollars. Is entry the same for both classes?

As for the Lotus on street tyres other then semi slicks. Its stands to reason that it would struggle less then many Nissans/Mazda/Subaru etc on general performance tyres as they have big diameter wheels and low weight and cog compared to most cars. What size are the tyres/rims? Im guessing they are 17x7.5" or something which is basically what i run on my 1300kg Skyline :D

Exactly, I think people should just enter to have some fun.

My point re the Lotus Roy is that there are cars that are eligable to run in that class that can go faster than the 18's and 20's that some people are predicting. You want me to remember tyres sizes....ha I just drive the thing :D

Yes it has 17's and weighs just over 900kg and has an 1800cc toyota engine that has a tiny 200rwkw. It might have a weight advantage but it lacks power compared to some other cars.

I think on the day you are going to see some pretty impressive numbers punched out as I know a few people that are entering but have not been included in the official list yet.

I have only got 3 more forms that are not on that list and I dont think that the people you speak of are either of those 3 so I would suggest they get them to me asap :D

Totally agree, just beacause of the calibre of cars (and driver) should not deter possible competitors, its all about having a go and enjoying the event. Yeah sure there will be some competitiveness but that never hurt anybody?!?!

I say have a go and be part of a fast growing form of Motorsport here in OZ...

And Bozman1, stop setting the bar so high, hacks like me who have never done a lap of OP have no chance against 'professionals' like you... :D

BHDave,

Yep it Boxheadmr.

So are you or Anthony going to have a crack at Superlap?

I'm not as my car doesn't qualify for either category, rb25 swap so i'd have to be in open class and no cage so i cant be in open class....plus i really am a rubbish driver.

tmb considered it for a little while, but decided against it. He falls in the middle ground as well. He'd have to remove the cage, refit the interior and buy new tyres for street class, or get eaten alive on the straight in open.

Didnt realise that Open Class needed cages ;) I have a half cage so not fussed, but can see how it would hurt a lot of R32 owners who binned the RB20.

For the first few rounds of these events are Superlap not best to loosen the rules and allow as many competitors as possible? Then after a few events tweak the regs to suit the numbers and the people actually entering? From the events inception it would be ideal if you could draft regs loose enough to let as many runners as possible run. Attrition and those doing it for the first time will soon fall by the wayside as its expensive and takes a lot of hard work and hours to get the cars ready.

If a bump in displacement hurts the likes of R32 owners running RB25s etc. I wouldnt mind running against them with an RB20. Truth is on road rubber it will make them slower :)

    • Well, my new WMI system took much longer to finalize. I actually missed my dyno appointment last Friday and lost my 150$ deposit. I'll be going back in the next week or two.  To sum it up. I only kept the AEM tank from my old setup. I replaced the AEM pump with a higher flow/pressure ProMeth 30GPH pump. I also swapped over to a 6AN low pressure feed line to the pump from the tank. There's also a pressure switch you cannot see on the pump high pressure line.    This is feeding 6x 200CC direct port nozzles and 1x 500CC Pre Throttle body nozzle. All fittings are Swagelok, because well why not. I also have a 300PSI pressure sensor up front.    I now have my Haltech ECU controlling everything. I start my pump with a basic relay at 5PSI and deadhead it. I then PWM a 3000CC methanol Injector to control flow starting around 10psi. The pressure switch in the trunk, along with my tank level are safeties before I ever get to 10PSI, and then I use my pressure sensor upfront as a secondary safety to cut the WMI and corrections in case the injector blocks or a line ruptures.  Wish me luck on the dyno!
    • So, I'm back with bad news. There's no jack long enough on this planet that will reach the front subframe. If by some chance there is, it would weigh 200lb's.  I purchased a long reach jack... The damn thing weighted 120lb's and was massive. Didn't even come close, was still short at least a foot. It was a pain, but I brought it back. Next I decided HA! No problem, I'll get an Extra long reach jack. Well, I couldn't lift the box... It must have weighed 160LB's and luckily there was an open box in store. I took measurement and was still nowhere close.  Sadly I've lost hope and have accepted defeat.
    • Thanks for that tip, niZmO_Man. I think the battery is OK. It's quite a new one, but I'll check. Last time I needed a new battery, everything electronic was fine, except that there wasn't enough current to turn over the starter. I decided to order one of the partial AV system translation CDs from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. That might have some effect, or help me diagnose the date problem. 🤞
    • I suppose it was relatively stock too, the JZ motor handle most mods thrown at them without even breaking a sweat
    • I saw your intro update, are you sure you've actually had a starter motor failure? You mention it could be the alarm causing it. I'm assuming you've got a no start issue, but what are the exact symptoms, as there could be a few reasons it has stopped wanting to start.
