before you read i must note: i'm not making a big deal out of this, i just like telling stories... don't expect too much

okay guys here we go...

let me 'woo sa' at myself first and before i go on i must all tell you now that yes i was an idiot and i feel as dumb as the dumbest animal on earth (whatever that may be)

anyways, just have a question for you all i hope you can answer or at least help me with, here goes;

turning right (with the East Perth Police Station on my left and the WACA infront of me) onto the road with that big hill and Queens Park is on your left hand side there was this Camry going EXTREMELY slow (i was going to turn left where Queens Park and the City LockUp is) and i contemplated to myself if i should shift down and overtake them

NOTE - i was in a BIT of a hurry, girlfriend is having complications with her pregnancy so we were going to go to the hospital and i was a bit stressed...

anyways, i didn't so i kept travelling at 35km/h but there was this 4WD behind me i think was Patrol or LandCruiser with wooden planks and a surfboard or something on the roof behind me, driving just as slow... i just ignored it but i did think to myself 'there's something odd about that car', i drive past the lockup and there was one highway and undercover patrol car parked in the centre bays i think they were getting ready to start setting up RBT's or so... thought nothing of it

at this point in time i'm facing the WACA on my left and the lights are coming up, they're green and this stupid Camry is going super slow and there is this 'S' turn you have to take that gets you on the Causeway, anyways i stayed in second and at this point in time my mind was made up that when the lane splits from one to three i'm going to just go for it and fly past him, you know the little rush you get when you wanna ride your girl that little bit harder...

anyways flew past him (not exactly sure how fast i was going but i was over the limit for sure) and then that 4WD lights up the red and blue and i'm just thinking 'WHAT THE F*CK is going on, that bloody car looks like it's going to Meekathara or something!?!' so they flash and put on the siren briefly and i pull over into FabCar on Albany Highway and these two boys in blue hop out but they're wearing like Detective/Swat uniforms, those full length navy coloured ones and this is the conversation;

Officer: 'good afternoon mate, how are ya?'

Myself: 'yeah not bad officer...'

Officer: 'could you please step out of the vehicle with your license please'

Myself: *get out of car and pull license from wallet*

Officer: 'now have you got any idea as to why we pulled you over?'

Myself: 'yes officer' *nods head*

Officer: 'so are you in a rush to get somewhere or something?'

Myself: 'yes, well... kinda, yeah but of course there's no excuse right?'

Officer: 'is this your car?'

Myself: 'yes sir'

Officer: 'and who's name is it registered to?'

Myself: 'my mother's'

Officer: 'so if we look up this vehicle, it will be registered to this address?'

Myself: 'correct' *nods head*

AT THIS POINT IN TIME i start shitting thinking to myself 'do NOT take my car please'

in all seriousness i was going at least #30km/h (# represents a number you guys can think of yourselves)

i was thinking this because i was talking to one of the SAU boys from the cruise last night with an R32 GTR (sorry dude forgot your name) and he was telling me how he got done just after he got it out of the shop and the cops didn't sound too nice and these guys were whipping out notepads and everything... what made it was what he said a little later on...

Officer: 'now have you got any outstanding warrants or anything against your name i should know about right now?'

Myself: 'none sir'

Officer: 'anything in your history we might need to know about?'

Myself: 'i have lost my license before for three months'

Officer: 'and that was for?'

Myself: 'just repeated speeding infringements'

Officer: 'alright matey... so tell me where you're off to in such a hurry...'

Myself: 'well i'm actually on my way to my partner's house, she's pregnant at the moment but having a few complications and we don't want to take any risks like she's (then i talk about the complications she's having) so i'm just going to take her to the hospital now...'

THIS is where is shit myself...

Officer: 'i'll tell ya what's going to happen now, i'm going to confirm your details with the database and see if what you've told me is true and the seriousness of your past offences'

i seriously thought he was gonna say if it was bad enough he'd bring a tow truck, instead he says;

Officer: 'if they're serious enough we'll send out an infringement notice to you, if not we'll let you off with a warning okay?'

Myself: *deep down inside i have my eyes wide open in super dooper surprise mode* 'yes sir'

Officer: 'drive safely okay and slow down'

Myself: *still in shock as to how nice they were* 'definately, thank you'

AND OFF THEY WENT!

now my question to you guys is... did they not give me a ticket straight away or at all because;

they weren't a patrol car and couldn't prove or analyze how fast i was going?

they just can't give me a ticket?

what's happening with my girlfriend is quite serious and they felt sorry for me?

and why on earth didn't they hoon law me? i think it's an 80 zone there i'm sure i was going at least 5xkm's over the limit

and SHOULD i expect a ticket in the mail anytime soon?

everytime i've sped even 8km's over the limit i get done straight away on the spot, these guys just had a chat to me and let me go...

anyways, please keep flaming to a minimum PLEASE i know i did wrong and i know how people can get intolerant when others break the law but i've only shared this story to get your opinions and advice, it still phases me as to why my car is in my garage and not impounded, i wasn't a really safe driver infront of a police car for at least 700m...

please share

cheers,

Andrew

you got really lucky

the patrol wouldn't have been able to tell if you were speeding but they could have booked you for reckless driving or any amount of other things

perhaps they did feel sorry for your situation or perhaps they were just nice?

but consider yourself a lucky chap

Probably because you were just completely honest with them & knew you did the wrong thing I think that's why they have given you a warning. They were behind you & they probably wanted to do the same thing

So are you saying that speeding to help someone in an emegency is doing the wrong thing? I would say that he was doing an illegal thing but not wrong.

Yeah count yourself lucky.

Last night..or should I say early this morning (around 2am) I was heading NOR on the Kwinana Fwy (right from the start of fwy) and another car and I were just keeping up with each other, then all of a sudden as its getting close to the Berrigan Rd exit, this car comes out nowhere from the bushes and the other car puts on the brakes first (must have noticed it first) and then I look back and its a Highway Patrol Car (behind the other car). I then slow down to a point of doing 80 as I didn't want to go overtake the other car, which I think the HPC was hoping I would do. Then the HPC just floors it and flies in between the other car and I and puts on like 5-600 meters in seconds even after I get back to 100. No lights on, nothing...I had video camera on hand next to me and for some stupid reason didn't put it on to record them.

Could have been my first 'Police Hoons' video, would have looked good for them over the Easter Break when they are promoting the road safety / don't speed message!!

I bought a few Lotto tickets after my thing a few weeks ago..won $12..probably covered the cost of the tickets I originally bought hahaha.

Also, if those guys were D's / Tactical Responce...they usually don't bother I think handing out fines from what I've seen so far when I've been out on the road with detectives for work. Just means more stupid paper work for them in the office, and they've got better things to do.

Lol ... you will be fine as mentioned above ... they sound like they weren't traffic police.

I have had 2 strange incidents with the police in my late R32gtr ...

first week i got it i came out of the bottle shop , cruized up to the lights, took left hand turn and WUUP WUUP unmarked pulled me over where i turned into the side street because no parks on main road etc ...

I am thinking ohhh here we go ..the dreaded Skyline bashing etc ....i get out of the car the same time he does and we meet in the middle somewhere... He goes did you just leave the pub mate and i said sorta i just went through the drive through bottle shop > see 4pack of JD. He then goes ohhhhhhh i thought you had just left the pokies no worries . At this point i am like WTF , he doesn't bretho me but takes my license for a chekum. we both go sit in our cars .... I am getting a bit worried now thinking the worst that maybe there is an unpaid , hes radioing to his mates to do RWC checks, dont pop the bonnet , maybe he thinks i am Ivan malat etc ...cause hes taking ages... after 5/10 minutes or longer he gets out of his car and starts heading towards me with a huge grin on his face ??? I sat there going here we go ...

He reaches through the window with his hand extended and says beautiful car mate, Shakes my hand and introduces himself first name (this has never happened to me ever)... See ya on the road, bye...

I was Gob smacked

Later i found out he has an R33 Gtst as his personal ride... strangest interception i think i have ever had

the other story i will save for later ... 2 plain clothed D's that couldn't catch up to us until they did the flashing dash board thing ...lol

if these were traffic cops you would be gone , thats their job

Real cops have better things to do unless your an idiot , unlicensed driver , wanted criminal , crack dealer , meth head etc

hence the checks

Fixed

So are you saying that speeding to help someone in an emegency is doing the wrong thing? I would say that he was doing an illegal thing but not wrong.

If it was quite serious (emergency) she would have called an ambulance first, who could get there sooner & start treating her right away, not her boyfriend. I could understand why Andrew did it but could have gone about it a bit differently.

Spank my ass and call me charlie, luckiest man ever!

I remember one time burning around the corner, fully on-gate, quick but not out of control.... A cop from an undercover car see's me, gets out and flags me down. I proceed to paint my pants brown.

He asks for my license, I said "sorry for going pretty fast around the corner, I put my foot down to make the break in traffic" he asks to open my BOOT, rummages around for a bit, finds nothing. Asks me about my sticker on the back window ("RIP MrMeaner") I tell him the story, and he says well OK, take it easy next time and be careful.

Must've been a detective, he was wearing plain clothes. Not all cops are dicks eh!

In instances like this when you get pulled yp, and you KNOW they have no form of speed reading, deny everything, and demand proof if they want to try something on..

just because you over took someone on a 3 lane road does not make you a hoon. they need to proove without a doubt that you where doing something wrong..

your lucky mate, very lucky!! I've driven behind your before, and you're not a hoon. Just sheer dumb luck!! I got pulled over friday night for a licence check and random breath test. Didnt comment on why I turned my exhaust off, but did notice the directions for the cruise earlier that night!! I'd left the cruise cos of the cops at Burswood, had them follow me from Scabs to Burswood, and now they'd pulled me over!! :D Thankfully they said nothing and I left, but they have been out in force this weekend!!

Hope yr gf's ok as well.

No. If they pull you over, they give you the fine on the spot. That's what I've always seen, when people I know get pulled over. Never heard of them mailing one out to you unless you were caught on camera. Does anyone disagree to this? I may be wrong.

Nah not always. . i got pulled over one night and the cops took my details and didnt give me anything . . got the court summons bout 2 - 3 months later in the mail

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
