Well today, I sold my beloved Skyline. I had her for two years and had no problems what so ever (apart from my ineptness with Skylines which got smoothed out as time went by).

Now its time to look for something more economical and that is cheap to run. Must be auto, white/silver and Japanese.

I have been wondering about the next 4 cars:

1. My number one choice, Toyota Corolla 2005 Model. The look allright, have some go and have plenty of room (im 6'4). Cost around $16 K for a good one.

2. Toyota Yaris. Looks bit ghey but drinks even less petrol... but I heard they handle like crap and might be bit squashy for me.

3. Nissan Pulsar... I dont like the way they look but they seem like good value for money.

4. Suzuki Swift. They look cool and are cheap... but will I fit inside being tall?

Any comments and advice?

Did this move before. Trust me you will regret it and buy another import.

lol I recall man... you had the Lancer.

Na Im all grown up n shit now :) Need to buy my first house in a few months, I could have easily kept the R33 but sadly with petrol prices going up every month its just not worth it. Maybe in a few years (if business goes well and I bust my ass off) I can get myself a nice R35 GTR for the weekend play.

By a Golf or a Jetta...

Are they cheap to run? Parts and petrol wise?

You could run a current model TDi Gold on the vapours of an oily rag..

Literally.. I think they did a test in Britain where one traveled around the UK and did something like 1000km to a tank..

Allow me to verify..

I bought a second car,ill never sell my skyline.

I bought a 98 proton.I get 6.75L/100km.

Mate if I had already purchased my house Id never sell my Skyline either, but on the positive side, I could buy something much better within the next 3-4 years which will make my Skyline look like an aged Datsun :)

I sold my R33 to save for a house, and now have a pulsar.... It gets very depressing at times when you go a decent drive, however the pulsar is just so much cheaper to run and maintain.... in terms of money, it was by far the most sensible decision i ever made...as a positive, i'll also save towards that gtr so much faster as well....

Modena - bit of an off topic question but...

Do you live at home now or are you renting your "OWN" place..

as in are you in the real world yet?

this "buying my first home" dream is very different once you take the plunge.

it's like budgetting for an engine conversion.. it always costs double what you think.

Hope you're smart about what you are buying and what you can "very comfortably" afford to pay back

Hi bud,

I still rent (unfourtunately). I need a few more grand for the 10% deposit, then I can start looking and put forth my offers... looking to buy a house or a large villa unit thats between $260-300 K.

With current rising interest rates on houses, it seems bleak but fourtunately for me, I have a 9-5 job as well as a business on the side.

Fingers crossed but I should be OK... if it means getting one or two people to live with me and paying me rent then so be it... Ill do whatever it takes to quickly knock off the high interest rates, then once I bring it down I can kick everyone out of my future property and live alone or with a partner.

Those quiet Asian students are very appealing to rent with... they are as quiet as a mouse which I like. :P

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
