depends on the tyre and rim, i run around 30 front and rear for drift, people often run higher psi at the rear thinking it will last longer, but it actually delams the tyre quicker. but it comes down to just having to test, go out, have a feel, play around with psi and try again.

17x8 225s stretched

lol, 225's aint a stretch on a 8", with road tyres its gonna flop around a bit, id probably be running around 35psi, but thats just me, i hate the feeling of the front tyres gliding over the road and not grabbing even if it means the sidewalls arent as rigid, saying that i dont run crappy street tyres on the front so i usually dont have that problem. get some decent performance tyres with rigid sidewalls, best of both worlds.

im assuming you are all just running air in your tyres?

i have nitrogen in my tyres, which is not supposed to expand as the tyre gets hotter

so i have my tyres set at 38 when cold (234/45/17)

just for street use.. i find it really good because when ever i check my tyre pressure it never changes.

most tyre shops charge about $5 a tyre to fill them with nitrogen

Nitrogen still expands with heat, let's face it air is ~60% Nitrogen. The big advantage is the lack of humidity, the water (H2O) splits into H and O and that increases the expansion in the tyre. Dehumidified air doesn't expand much more than 100% nitrogen.

Just after some input

I have FEDERAL EVO 595 SS tires on my R33 GTR wheels which are 17 x 9 - I'm running 215/45/R17 tires

I have had both front wheels balanced but it vibrates a fair bit, then I dropped the tire pressure from 34 to 30psi and its quiet a lot better

I realise some of the vibrating issues may be due to the stretch of the tires on the rim but what would be a good pressure to run these wheels at?

  • 6 months later...

I run about 40psi front and rear in my 235/45r17's. But I also do a lot of highway driving.

I find that if you keep an eye on your tyre wear you will be able to tell if the pressures you are running are too high or low. Then you can simply alter it accordingly.

However if its purely grip that you want then all of this probably wont help you lol. I'm just more interested in tyre life as I don't drive like I'm on a race track all the time! :)

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
    • Sounds good, we will aim to be there! @The Bogan I'll give you a shout if you are heading up to campbelltown for the meet too.
    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
