The rims probably are the current weakest link. Do you have any pictures of the rims you are replacing them with? The new spray sounds good, when is that being done?

I fully realise why/how it could apeal to many poeple.. but persoanly.. to me.. I cannot say Im a fan..

for the poele that like that stlye of modification.. that car is top shelf!..

for others.. just money that could be spent on other areas..

same rims just wider on the rear with a 5" dish

other areas such as?????

i could never stand to see such gorgeous paint be sanded off for a respray.

NEVER!

leave the guards if it saves the paint :O

nah the paint is showing its age

after 5 years of getting banged around its got a couple of imperfections that really annoy me

the new paint will be 100x better just wait and see :D

I'm a big fan of the paint job... too bad it's getting old.

My motor and suspension etc is almost complete, would love to sink some cash into a paint job like that. Then I can buy a daily and stop wasting money.

Some people put performance first, so the money spent on the paint and interior could have gone to lightening reinforcing the chassis, or making more power from the engine (or making it more resistance to generating that power level for longer periods of time), or buying a GT-R and doing almost the same thing with ATTESSA, etc.

If someone else sank the time/money/effort that you have into making this car into a pure track monster, it wouldn't be what you've got. Its not what you wanted to do, but that's exactly his point.

fair enough

how ever the only thing i haven't done is lighten it to buggery and make it stiff as f**k which IMO is something thats too impractical for the street anyway

-ive done the motor (RB25/30 which is responsive and relaible enough to be daily driven)

-almost finished building a tough gearbox (about week and it will be in the car)

-suspension has been addressed (coilovers, urethene bushes, every arm is replaced with adjustable ones)

-brakes have been upgraded (bigger rotors, braided lines, and good pads, soon to be upgraded again though)

at the end of the day its not just a car thats all tarted up to look good but its an all round package

if i put some smaller rims on it get a wheel alignment and strip the interior i could track it no problems

obviously its not going to be as quick as a dedicated circuit car but its all about having fun right :D

Did you say a RB25/30 hybrid? The photo of the engine bay that follows your comment shows 30 on the head and 26 on the cam gear cover. So what combination have you used? I'm looking at a single turbo 30 block under 26 head in my 32. How much work was involved in yours?

BTW, regarding the comments on spending money on looks - as unique as 2GU UP looks, its a fairly simple and modest example of what is basically a GTR. It has a nice wide body, five spoke rims and a sweet paint job. No ridiculous bodykits, wings or any other glitter has been used:

Meanwhile its not slow! I would call spending $13,500 on lightening a whole car an extravagent expense.

I think if anything the modestly modified exterior is slightest dishonest in hiding the true potential of the motor and suspension.

Any thoughts?

his car started life as a non turbo Rb20de powered R32 GTS.

it now has a 3L bottom end with RB25 head (but using RB26 cam covers etc)

he had a special coil cover made to say 3L

and the cam gear cover is just an aftermarket rb26 item.

well that's what I remember of it all anyway.

there are always those jelous people that say there not jelous, it was a project car, an it wasnt a group project were 150 people would love the look of it when its complete, but a personal project which he obviously likes..

car is f*kin sexy, yes i am jelous an i do admit it...

thanks for the comments people

DRDOOF - two tone candy red over candy cherry black (always lover the darker lower half look)

Drift Learner - building and fitting the actual motor wasn't anything major and everything was straight forward, but the detailing and custom work was the hard part

PM-R33 - i also put the same effort into every customer car

also about the motor, GTST is correct RB25/30 with 26 covers

    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
    • I'm an idiot, my intercooler is rated for 1000hp. I had clicked on the wrong product. Knowing the delta P would be nice, but I'm doubtful I'll do it. Now as for an EMAP, that would be great and I'll get around to it eventually but from my findings in my last post, I'm considering a turbo swap now.
    • You sir, big win tonight. Precision never supplied compressor maps in the past and Idk when they started, but it seems they only offer for a few of the older gen2's which is exactly what I have. I punched in some numbers and seem to have gone with the wrong turbo. 600-700whp isn't in the most efficient area and is close to the choke line. 800whp is well off the map. Punching the numbers into a 68mm gen2 turbo map is bang on in the center. Here I was thinking going smaller would shift the power band down, but in reality it would just make it so much worst due to my rev limit. I would have never thought.
    • Increasing overlap will bring the torque down earlier (and make your idle sound sick lol). Worth a shot (if you dyno time) to experience a bit (providing you are confident your valves won't kiss your pistons). Is to just take off 5 degrees across the boosted area of the map, and then retard the exhaust cam let's say, 3 degrees at a time and then overlay all the runs with VCT on all the way and VCT off as soon as you make positive pressure. Ideally you would have a total of 6x overlays to looks at 0 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve 0 exhaust & VCT on all the way -5 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve -5 exhaust & VCT on all the way -10 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve -10 exhaust & VCT on all the way Just leave your O2 wideband closed loop on for all of the boost area & RPM, and hopefully there isn't too much fuel correction needed and the Haltech is fast enough to compensate (I do this, then apply the correction to the main table). Getting that overlay data should give you a good indication of what to aim for.
    • So, my main limitation here is that the car does not have an oil pressure sensor by default, just a switch. As part of my tune I bought an oil pressure sensor upgrade so I now have access to oil pressure levels and logging rather than just the boolean behaviour of the switch but this means I need to use the tuning app to display this value. So, this rules out using any other app on the iPad. The app will also flash when pressure drops which is a nice feature. I have replaced the centre screen with an Android one, which is awesome for Android Auto, but I think it might be too far away and out of my line of sight. I might add some gauges to it this weekend and just see. I guess if its just temp and oil pressure I can make them massive! 🤣
