In a few weeks i am getting my new turbos put into my car (R33 GTR) They are GT2860r-7's. I am also getting my exhaust replaced at the same time. I have Tomei dumps, 3 inch Do-Luck front pipes, 3.5 inch cat, and a 3.5inch Do-Luck cat back.

My car is stock at the moment and was dynoed at 181KW at all 4.

My question is what sort of power increase can i expect from this upgrade? And what PSI/BAR should my turbos be set at? I assume since i dont have a manual or electronic boost controller that the boost can be set on the actuators? Im thinking 1 BAR will be fine and still keep my engine in good safe working order.

Cheers for any help

18-20psi you should see around 300 at all four with management.

You make no mention of management however, so if you dont have any...

1bar - 250 at all four.

Bit of a waste running 1bar with those turbos though, get some management

The plan is to get a Power FC when i have the money ready. Im just trying to get my car back on the road after it being off the road for 6 months with stuffed turbos.

I dont really like the idea of being to close to 300KW just for the fact that if my engine goes i cant afford to rebuild it at the moment im trying to save for a house aswell

  • 3 weeks later...
I finally got my car back today with everything fitted and no more exhaust smoke either :)

I managed to get 232awkw @ 14PSI

That is great for a stock GTR.....

PFC will only get you another 20 to 30 AWKW's.....

I run the gt-ss turbos on my stock r32 gtr at 307rwkw with a safe tune and blew up no.6 piston within 3000km. Don't do it mate. Run about 270-280rwkw to be safe.

Cheers,

Al

wahhhtttttttttttt im scared to install my GT2860 -5s now ;)

once you get the power FC you should see an easy 290-300rwkw with 18psi..i think that would be safe. 232awkw is what you would expect from standard turbo's at 14psi

Cooper,

You in Adelaide mate? Whos doing the work on your car?

Cheers,

Big Mike

Yeah im in Adelaide, Graham West Workshop (Adelaide Performance Engineers) did the work.

If i wanted 16 PSI would it be as easy as adjusting the nuts on the actuators? since i dont have a boost controller. How much would i have to wind them out?

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
