What would be the best combo to make power to 8000 rpm? What cams at what lift/duration? What sprockets? What turbo? I'd like to make 270-300 whp. I don't care if it doesn't make power until 4000. I like some lag to stay out of boost while cruising. But a 3500-4000 rpm pull range would be nice. If your wondering what I'll use if for that would be fun. Just something to beat on and raise general hell. Thanks

You won't need cams to make power up to 8,000rpm

You will need a bigger turbo, injectors, engine management, fuel pump, exhaust, intercooler and tune

Turbo wise something like a HKS2535 would be good if your looking for around 300rwhp and its not that laggy either

ive got the KKR480 turbo... runs about 17psi. bit laggy, full boost by about 4.5k but turbo is still new so gotta let it settle a bit.. but apart from that.. car revs happily to 8500rpm with out so much as a tune yet

i got intercooler, exhaust, gtr fuel pump, remapped ecu and electronic boost controller...

Meh to valve springs and all that. Just get a nice turbo rated at around 400hp, something like a TD06, 3071 etc and get it well tuned with adjustable cam gears. I run a TD06 on a std motor and on plenty of occassions have ran it to a 8,800rpm rev limit with 18psi or so jammed into it. Though i tend to try and run either high revs or high boost, not normally both.

I know what supporting mods are necessary just needed some advice on good combos to utilize. Thanks.

To Adriano

I really have no good reason other than "just because" or the sound and to do it often. At least hit 8k in neutral, 2nd, or 3rd every day till/if it pops(I know I'm a ricer). If it does it can be rebuild. I love the power/sound/revs/price of the rb20. Its perfect for me.

Who here can mod the stock mani to use an ext wastegate? How much? Isn't the 20g what some dsms have stock but uses 3 bolt flange or what ever?

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
