some suggestions as to where i might have a leak (common places)?

That pipe, from the return line on your BOV.

Put some duct tape over it (Alot) and I bet it goes away. Then, go buy a new return line.

i had this same issue.... but i had aftermarket turbo q45 afm etc. wat it was is when 20psi of boosted air was being pushed into the intake infront of the turbo it was forcing air back out of the intake aka backwards through the afm..... which basically mean night night when clutch is depressed after u left off the throttle and valves open up. now i run 2 stock valves (modified) and i would doubt ur 1 stock valve would have the capacity to cause this kind of a problem but check it neways mate cant hurt.

went back to stock for a bit but just put a greddy bov on

have found that it will work fine if the bov closes fully on idle, but for some reason its opening slightly, as if it has to much vacum

if i hold it closed and just give it a bit of revs and let it drop back to idle it idles fine

any ideas on how i can reduce the vacum? dont really want to make it any harder as its close to the point were it will frequently give me compressor surge

I'm not sure if this will help but I had something similar in my series 1 r33 gtst stock cept for a Turbosmart s2 BOV and K&N air filter.

It would stall when pulling up to lights.

My mechanic said it was the air filter getting blocked, not enough air getting through. I got my air filter cleaned and the problem has stopped.

Might be worth cleaning/replacing your air filter

ill give that a go

had a play with it last night, hooked my bov up to where my fuel regulator (i think thats wat it is anyway) is hooked up and just left the hole where u usually hook the bov up to on the plenum open so it had a vacum leak basically and it idled perfectly..... so my idea and i dont think its a very good one is to t-piece off the fuel reg or watever i used last night and make a line to go to the bov from there and then i dunno wat ill do with the other hole, as soon as i blocked it off though with my bov running to the front hole in the plenum it would stall so it would only work when it had a vacum leak....

ideas?

haha yeh, i think its just the fact that its leaking vacum so its not trying to pull the bov up therefore its not opening that little bit that makes it stall

going to do the sensible thing and see if i can make it recurculate by making a replacement for the trumpet, dont believe i will lose much sound this way (?) and it will be legal and should hopefully idle right

just so i know, can anyone verify that it will idle fine if the bov is open a bit on idle if its on recirculate? im thinking it will but will be nice to know before doing it to save troubles.

Thanks

    • And I just realised that that advice is slightly nonsensical for a GTR, because you need 2 of them. But it is otherwise true.
    • Having had a reasonable look at the car, I'll be able to remove the (one time) rams and retract the hinge (they are held in the down location by a tiny (m3?) sacrificial screw) which will get it physically back in shape. From there if you remove the rams you need a resistor to turn off the airbag light (as Mark said, there are plug in kits and I might go that way because its reversible). And...per all the threads on here, even if you have the resistors to turn off the airbag light, the bonnet light will stay on as it writes to the airbag computer history - that is either replace the airbag controller, reprogam the EPROM (if I can work out how), or remove the globe from the dash. Having seen how sensitive this system is, if I had my time over I'd pre-emptively remove the rams, even on a road car, because this is all a very unnecessary pain in the arse. Reminds me, time to go and have a look at the Fuga too....

    • Hi, i got 1998 r34 4 door auto abs model and its manual converted with bigbox when i bought it . I successfully find the neutral and reverse light wire but can’t find the speed signal wires for speedo drive. I know its grey plug but on my loom no grey plug with 2 wires . I opened the loom upto where it getting branch with other wire, i’m amazed they is no wire. So need help how to fix the speedometer problem. I search on google it says some r34 model measure speed from diff sensor. Is it right? I talk to a wrecker he say no this isn’t right, i’m kinda stuck. Please help
