I have just built a 25/30 as my old 25 died at just under 400rwkw. I have Haltech E11v2 and am using Splitfire coils. I want to upgrade the ignition and was thinking about a MSD dis4 and mercury marine coils. Will this work with the haltech while running wasted spark?

What would be my best option to work with my ecu?

Why are you running wasted spark? You are decreasing the coil recharge time by 50%.

Run 6 ignition circuits with the Splitfires and it will be fine.

Cheers

so this would be better??

MSD Digital-6 Plus CD Ignitions

Power, accuracy, and efficiency.

MSD has combined race-winning experience with leading-edge technology to offer these incredible Digital-6 Plus ignitions. The 15 MHz micro-controller can analyze up to 15,000,000 critical instructions per second! That's over three times faster than comparable ignitions. Every spark is packed with 135 millijoules of spark energy and 535 V of power. Built-in features on the MSD Digital-6 Plus ignition include two rotary switch adjustable rev limiters, a single-stage timing retard, a start-up timing retard, an LED fault display, EMI protection, and much more! You get complete combustion for greater power, quicker throttle response, smoother idling, and quicker starts. You always get more power with less current draw.

Surprisingly a dis-6 isnt a 6 channel cdi, its only one channel. To run 6 channel cdi, use a m&w pro-12, or a dis-4 and dis-2. I wouldnt have thought that the coil recharge time would be an issue when running wasted spark cdi, as there really isnt a recharge time. Also he is running an rb25/30 so there arent going to bo massive revs. PS 1jz's run waste spark from the factory and they dont seem to have ignition dramas. So do 4g63's

just get a HKS ignitor box, plenty of jap workshops running the factory coil (or replacement) with the HKS box, works a treat but hasnt really caught on here which i find odd considering its great and uses all the factory gear

i have a set of the haltech high power coilpacks for sale brand new in boxes for $480 (cost $650 new), my tuner reccomended them for over 35psi boost and 700rwhp+, the tuner runs these on his 2jz drag car running high 8's down the track and making 700hp so they are the ones to go for.

give me a PM if your keen

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
