I hear a lot of people in here saying that they get hassled by the cops a lot with defects etc.

I'm wondering whether its racism or what? because I'm a fairly large white guy, my car looks like it's modified and it's pretty loud, I've not had one trouble from the cops yet (touch wood) and i live in SE suburbs around the areas where it seems to happen most? I realise that a lot of you guys that are having/ have had problems with the cops are not average joe crackers like me :-P so what are your opinions? Do you reckon that they really do target "ethnics", as they probably say, more than white guys? I'm not trying to be a racist myself or anything like that, just wondering what the consensus is on the issue.

its luck dude, and the SE suburbs :D.. coz i am from northern suburbs and i drive pretty nuts around here with my BOV waking up the whole neighbourhood and even past broady cop shop and NEVER had a hassle over here (not even a speeding fine) and all 3 problems ive had with cops have been over the other side of the city and in the city... so i just avoid those areas as muhc a spossible which makes it hard when i go to ice performance :D

and yer im a white guy too so just letting you know it aint racism (well maybe a bit i guess) but im a white dude that has been picked on

well look at what kind of person the average cop is

90% of the time its a white guy

ive only seen one asian cop and I think he was a trainee

i even read about racism within the police force where if you are in the police force and not white then you cop shit from colleagues.

its stupid especially in a multi-cultural country

i think u'll find that racism comes into it a little but isnt a major factor... im a maori and have neever really been hassled by cops apart from the dyno day we had a while back in bayswater... funnily enough by a maori cop... the aussie wasnt worried at all.

first 3 weeks when i got my car (almost 2 years now) i was pulled over. i knew i had done nothing wrong, cops did too, just a random 'check'. looked over the car checked for height (hehe stock height still!) but didn't pop bonnet. cop says 'nice car' i say 'thanks'. then his next question floored me 'where did you get the money for a car like this?' didnt expect that question but the only thing i could say was 'ummm, i work'. finished his licence checking and then let me go. prolly looked to him like i'm sort of drug dealer or something.... very weird cop too.

i doubt there is anything gotta do with racism. i have never been hassled by coppas recently(touch wood also) but i realsed that a lot of coppas target 'P Platers' rather than full licence drivers so it comes to the conclusion that it doesnt matter what race you are, if are a p plater, you bound to be pull over by them. Alternatively, most lines are tinted so they wouldnt know what nationality you are until you got pulled over anyway

maybe it is a young guy nice car thing aye, I got my car when i was 22 and a biggish dude and not been hassled at all, but my brother bought an r33 gts when he was 18-19 and a bit scrawny- he was pulled over about 6 times in his first 3 months and quite a few times since then (but he's in Perth). Its not very fair, but i'm not going to go as far as saying that they should pull us all over an equal amount of times :-P hehe

probably coz they are all high school dropouts on a minimum salary that comes with authority so the fact they can get the guys who 'bagged their sorry asses in school' back for the harrassment back then LOL

hmm, i want a sticker on the back of my window saying 'before you coppers pull me over think about this, my exhaust aint over the limit, my car is stock height, AND YOUR NOT GOING TO FIND A DARN THING DEFECTABLE ON IT SO **** OFF!!!'

:D

probably. i wasnt a p-plater back then. prolly the car, prolly coz i'm asian. could've been anything.. other than that (and some other alleged speeding mishap that was never proven :D ) i've never been pulled over for anything.

/ula knocks on a lot of wood :D

in all my hassles for cops they always ask where I got the money from. Also, i have never been defected..... very suprisingly.

I got pulled over and given 11 demerit points.. all 3 fines bullshit and then they didnt even bretho me and look under my bonnet ... i was told to slow down with "such skinny tires" - pff 235's hmm

and cops are racist for sure.. unfortunatley lots of people are in one way or another. Like, if i see dudes with big beards and a turbban, im going to automatically think terrorist.. but thats being racist.. im sure cops see it as people coming to OUR country, with MORE money than they have and a NICER car than them.. which prolly pisses em off.

bah... its only a povo r32... no-one take any notice of those cars. :D i was in the se subs today... couldn't help but be on a special lookout for cops. saw a few but all of em seemed to be on their own mission. never even gave me a second look...

/ula knocks on wooden computer desk.

/gets bandage and ice from swollen knuckles

I don't think a lot of cops even realise your average R33 GTS-T is under $25k, and about half what you'd pay for a brand new SS. I think jealousy does come into a bit..they probably think they're like $50k. In fact neither do most people, i regularly get questions like "so how much did that car cost you? $40k?" and i just laugh :D

I don't think racism comes into it that much, because after all, most of the time they can never tell from about 5 metres away whether the person is black, white, blue or green to be honest..

I think its probably more an age thing than anything, and in many ways that is justfied

ah! so yur not russian? funky u lie!

:D

but i dunno, i've only been pulled over once, told that im busted to EPA, too low, bov, speeding... la la la...

but didn't receive anything in the mail?

im so lucky, and i put it down to them actually being nice cops or they were too lazy.

so i can't say that i've really had any racism trouble with the cops. and i guess its all down to the individual cop. my 13.65c.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
