^^^ haha so you saw my brother-in-law's R33 in there in past couple of days Luke? We have had the R34GTR MFD on his test bench playing with it for a few weeks and figuring things out and how to best wire it up to work 100% on his R33. It is an interesting project. The wiring is going to be a NIGHTMARE but we have got most of it figured out (with some help from a Singaporean guy who has already done it to his R33GTR).

He has also bought a fully fledged Car PC and 7" VGA touch screen monitor and we have been playing with an awesome piece of software called 'Centrafuse', which is all-in-one car entertainment management software - including MP3 library functionality, DVD player, Bluetooth for mobile phone integration, Sat Nav etc etc. He also has awesome PowerFC software that lets him play real time with his PowerFC tune and mapping, and does virtual gauge readout through the Car PC and touchscreen monitor. When it is all finished I will get him to come on a cruise to show it off. Truly amazing stuff.

FYI his name is David, and his username is 'Red Back' on here. I have his old HKS 2530 from his written off R33 on my car now  His Series 3 R33GTR is pretty lusty hey?! Puts out a bit of power too :(

Oh and Spangers - I definitely would not be mentioning the specific model of alarm on the forums - unfortunately they browse forums, and if you tell the exact model of your alarm it makes it easier for them to do their homework. Oh, and John from Marvey Tech is awesome - he knows his sh!t.

AWESOME bloke! He just did my new alarm and did a great price. He's currently chucking a 34GTR MFD into a 33GTR, if all goes well I'm gonna get him to do the same in mine!

Andrew, any idea how much the 34 MFD is going to cost all up? Is something I'd love to do to the Stag as well, but only if under $2K which I reckon would be pretty doubtful.

David bought the MFD off Yahoo Japan through Slidewise (importer/middle-man) for around $1,100 landed here. This is a great price, and the cheapest he had seen for a while. I believe they go for around $1,500 normally. Then you have the cost of getting a fibreglass shroud made up (if you don't want to do this you can hack into your dash and try to just mount the MFD in its enclosure). Then you have to wire the thing up. Not an impossible job, but a LOT of stuffing around and soldering - we are up to about 25 wires that need to be spliced into from the main ECU and Atessa ecu, then vaccum sealed onto connectors which go into the back of the MFD.

Like I said, not an impossible task, but a pretty big job. If you are fairly fluent in soldering and basic auto electrical things, you should be able to do it yourself (we will do Davids between us).

Given how sweet these things are, and how we have figured out how to trigger the Aux Video in so he can watch DVDs or use his car PC (including PowerFC readouts/monitoring) on it also, it is a very cool thing and well worth the effort. It is even more tempting for me, as I have a bolt-in place to put one in my R34

Ah this is great news Andrew, will definately be interested to see how this conversion goes! I've always wanted to chuck the MFD into my car, even when I had the GTS-t. Now that I own a GTR and know someone doing the mod it seems even more attractive. It would be great if you could take some notes down while doing the install just to point me in the right direction in case I too decide to bite the bullet and go through with it as well

Cheers Andrew, sounds hard but as you said not impossible! Once I sell the GTR I think that'll be first on my list and yeah any tips would be much appreciated. (The Stags got a really sh!t dash for mounting one too, it's on an angle right on the middle which will probably be a bastard!)

  • 2 weeks later...

    • Has anybody had their wheels refurbished? I reckon it's likely bloody expensive. Even a sand blasting quote for my 17s was 200-300 per wheel! The E39 wheels are basic BMW M Sport (or M Tech at the time.) they have slight rash and some have signs of bad repair in the past on the lips. The main issue is that they've become really off coloured.  I think it will be too much as this is definitely (supposed to be) a budget resto. I've been looking at others for sale but they all have some minor damage and colour issues.  In the end I think I'll just need to sand blast them myself and do a respray.
    • Trying to figure out which nismo cluster i have. All the ones i see on the internet, the speedo goes up to 320kph and the revs 11k, with the nismo logo being on the rev gauge only. But on my one, the speedo goes up to 300 and says nismo, while the revs only go upto 10k and no nismo logo Dunno how to embed pics into a post so ill attach pic of my cluster and generic google search for reference Is what i have genuine?
