I have a 3.5 inch veilside exhaust which had 2 very very large oval mufflers on it. (it may have even had 3)

i cut off one to kill a bit of weight and its still just as quiet as it was with two. so ditch the cannon or the hotdog and get a high flow oval muffler in there. the system is very good at flowing

now i am looking at going a full trust ti-r system so it will be very loud with just one cannon on the back

i am sure west side mufflers would be able to help in padstow on the corner of fairford rd & watson rd (just near padstow mcdonalds) and not far from the m5 motorway

Hi guys just thought i should add my 2 cents of experiences :w00t:

I got a 3inch exhaust from the turbo back high flow cat and a cannon at the back being a rb26/30 it moans bad. At that stage i had 300rwkw at 18psi. I got dicked becos it was loud fair enough.

I stripped off and put in the original exhaust got it tested and dropped the boost to 7psi and made it bearly 89.7 backing off. I got it dynoed and made 230rwkw and killing the engine bad.

I put my old exhaust on add an ovalwhere the cat was located and moved the cat behind the hot dog and still kept the cannon. got it dynoed and made 271rwkw but the noise was 94db. So i just added a buterrfly and when closed noise reading was 86db so im happy and the jacks are.

Now i just have to have eyes every where when i see em i just pull muffle the noise via the lever. otherwise to get the legal reading and power its just going to screw the engine and add misery after all the only thing thats legal is the exhaust ....

^^ i concur.

A properly built one would have sorted it from the beginning.

You might also be surprised, with a 26/30, what going to a 3.5" might do at that power :)

well theres no room for anything else, though i can remove the cannon and fit them oval mufflers on but that will kill the noise bad, best thing was to fix my old barina and leave the king for weekends rather than everyday ride ;)

your right there i can fit it but the power bug has taken over my mind :)

i might remove my rear cannon and replace it with an oval any ideas?

Well actually i got plans to remove my turbo replace it with the original. Also just wondering if theres any restrictions regarding exhaust manifolds?

Also removing my wastegate and replacing it with the standard. also will be changing back to the box filter style. maybe just modify the box abit..

Will remove my boost controller and set the boost on 1 level.

Any other ideas people have are most welcomed

This is a 3" system I did for a S14 RB25,

Car ran low 11's pretty easy with or without the system, without it (just a small turn down off the fairly short down pipe) it picked up about .03 seconds, probably due to the weight reduction more than power..

Whole aim was to keep it as stock looking and quiet as possible (cops here SUCK!), car at idle and even mid RPM/throttle was barely louder than a Mk5 Golf GTi, sure makes it fun to supprise people on the street.

Sure is a pitty we dont get 3.5" in South Africa though, only 3" and next step is 4" which is WAY overkill.

i need to upgrade my system. Currently has xforce turbo back. Engine is fully built rb25/30 with to4z and 400+ rwkw. It will have custom turbo front/dump/cat gutted. Looking for a cat back system. Interested in the trust TR but cant seem to find a place that sells it. Otherwise i can get the trust power extreme 2. Which of these 2 would be ideal for my application? Sound loundness doesnt concern. Just want something that is non restrictive. Feedback appreciated

If your not worried about sound... 3 steps

1. Go to exhaust shop

2. Ask for straightest exhaust possible using 3.5"/4"

3. One muffler at the rear, must be straight through

Thats it, nothing much to it in terms of design or requirements for noise that actually requires thought.

But would it be cheaper to get a off the shelf jap design rather then custom?

i got quoted $1100 for a custom front/dump pipe. From a very well known performance shop here in perth. Sounds over priced to me. The actual workshop that is building my engine is also doing the turbo to cat job so might aswell get them to complete the job i guess. I dont know price wises, its something that needs to be done so do now and pay later agreement. Although i would rather have jap brand over custom and hence my orginal post. Any ideas as to what brand of muffler i should be using?

+1. Me to. Quiet and no drone.

Do you have a single or twin turbo chargers? Its just that the exhaust note is louder with a large single, so i want to know if it'll suit my car.

What diameter is the trust PE II?

Shaun.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
