Hi all,

I've been trying to decide between these 2 exhausts, but i haven't heard either in real life. Was wondering if anyone out there would be able to answer:

Which is quieter when granny driving?

Which sounds nicer when you fang it?

I've read a good review about the Kakimoto, but haven't heard a lot about the HKS.

Any info / opinions appreciated.

I am using HKS dump, HKS front pipe, no cat and hks silent high power catback and its rather loud when at full throttle, not to bad when cruising, and dosent drone at all when at 100kph, when the rest of the exhaust was standard and i had just the hks catback bolted on it was very very quiet! From what ive read the kakimoto is very quiet but still sounds nice when giving it some, check in my signature for vids if you want to hear what mine sounds like.

I have a TRUST Power Extreme 2 which is reasonably quiet, doesnt drone whatsoever and does have a real nice sound to it when on boost....

I also have a hi-fo cat and JJR split dump pipe.

i have apexi n1 evolution on r32

3.5 inch stainless was why i purchased it over the hks

buil quali awesome

not obtrusive at all on normal driving

in bris if u want to have a look sometime

running rb25detneo

I was looking at the GReddy/Trust PE II, heard it was quiet on idle but had a nice 'roar' to it when you give it some.. However I myself am going to go for a stainless Kakimoto N1 full mega, they are already made to comply below 93 db.. I'm going to get mine with a cannon silencer just to be extra sure...

Thankyou for your replies guys,

I will be installing it on an R32 gts-t with an rb25 turbo, the just jap split dump and xforce hi-flow cat, so i realise it won't be very quiet, but glad to hear you guys are getting good results. I'll check out those vids when i get home thanks nizmo_freek.

hey wogan, i was in your situation a long time ago.

personally i dont like the hks because its only a 3" cat back, where as the kakimoto is a 3.5" catback.

i would strongly recommend the 3.5 if u are planning some serious mods later on. if not then the hks is your exhaust.

because the way the hks is designed is it very very quiet on idle and cruising, but i must warn u its one of the exhausts that have the wet fart exhaust noise....rather then the deep growl a kaki has.

if you want a nice note wen u "fang it" id get the kaki

but at the same time the hks will not drone or get you into shit with the epa, being very below the db limit.

id go with the kaki personally, 3.5" exhaust = more hp + you get the cool titanium finish (JDM yo =D )

^^^ are you sure about that?

My understanding is the HKS is 120mm tip size and Pipe Size 85mm.

ie. 4.7" tip and 3.3" pipe. And it sure looks like that, hell if the piping was any bigger I'd be scraping 24-7.

its been a while but i remember the hks being 3" pipe and 5" tip where as the kaki was 3.5 pip and 6" tip.

or something close to that.....

Just been doing some research, Seems the Kakimoto Regu 06&r is only 60mm in diameter at it's smallest point.. therefore it's only really a 2" exhaust.

Also the availability of the HKS Silent Power to suit a R32 GTS-T is pretty low. Might be able to get one from Nengun or somewhere, but i don't really feel like waiting till next year to install it.

The Kakimoto N1 is great, but it's a full system and i already have the split dump and high-flow cat..

Does anyone know of a reasonably quiet, quality 3" cat back system to fit an R32 GTS-T?

I should specify that the kakimoto regu 06&r is 60mm in diameter for a section on the R32 GTS-T exhaust.. possibly larger on other model cars.

Looking at possibly a Trust Power Extreme 2... off to research again :bunny:

I would recommend the Trust PE2. I think its a 80mm pipe. Reasonably quiet with good bark on command and a great note. I have never had any complaints by the police with it (including 3inch split dump + front + cat). Its also fairly cheap. I got mine from Autobarn and paid like $670 approx. No need to wait for it to be ordered in either.

Here here for the P.E.II.

I've got a Hks dump into blitz front pipe into X-force cat into P.E.II.

Sounds bloody great when pushed but minimal drone when cruising.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
