Well Finally got Diked by the cops for my car. Recieved letter from EPA yesterday. Just wanted to know whats good Plumback BOV i can get?? as the Atmospheric one has to go. Im also Sourcing a Stock Airbox. oh yea.. Boost controler has to go and my PFC Ecu, but the cop rekons if i sweet talk the guys at the EPA i might be able to keep the PFC as its more efficient and makes the car run a bit Leaner? U guys think i can get away with it?

cheerio.

Go the stock one, easiest way to solve your problem. Chuck in the stock boost solenoid, and remove PFC. There is NO WAY the boys at McLeod will let you keep it.

Also what exhaust do you have? Probably too loud, so chuck on the stock cat back or get a custom one made up that is under 90DB.

Good luck

man this is a headache. I have a 4inch straight thru all the way from turbo. take it thats no good? in my opinion I dont think my car is not that loud at all, but spose i better get a stock one for the heck of it.

How the hell am i gonna find a stock ECU before my test date? their as rare as hens teeth these days.. can i get an extension?

O.k.. If say i do get these parts. i can fit the stock exhaust myself. put the stock airbox in myself, how much would i be lookin at to get a stock ECU put back in and i assume re-tuned. and removal of my boost controller? .

Also can I just get the PFC plugged back in and the boost controller, after the EPA fiasco is over and drive away?

It shit like this which disencourages me to keep my car. but i like it so much. Sad,

4inch straight through, not a chance in hell.

As for the stock ECU, if you can find 1, plug it in yourself and drive away...the car will be back to stock power and feel like shit obviously, but it'll be fine...no need to 'retune' it as its stock and there's nothing to tune.

Once you plug the pfc back in, as long as the mods it was tuned with are back on the car it'll run like it used to.

i highly doubt a 4" exhaust from turbo back will come near passing. when i went through an EPA test a year ago, i put a stock dump/front pipe and got a custom 2" rear muffler made with a peashooter tip from the last flange back. i just passed by 1dB.

no idea on what stock ECU's cost but i'm sure any performance place or jap wreckers can source one.

if your boost controller is a T-peice type, all you need is hose and 10 mins.

this is the world of jap cars where the law hates us. gotta live with it bud!

post your outcome and good luck,

dave.

thanks for the Hot tips guys.. ill be callin every jap performance wrecker in town over the coming days.. as for avoiding it, I dont think you can mate, u may be able to delay it, like I have. but ultimately you will get done, I just left my house and went over the road the get fuel, and this patrol car started circling me like a shark ready to strike as i was at the bowzer, and thats where he got me. Even my mates stock as a rock r33 has been pulled over twice.

hey i just got my EPA about 2motnsh ago! i had a pod filter, turbo back 3inch exhaust greddy catback with a greddy 3'inch dump pipe and a 3inch high flow... I took off my PE II Extreme and chucked on my OEM catback to the greddy trust dump pipe and JUst passed! 87.9 . So if i was u dude, chuck back on the catback!

Guys, that's not how the dB system works.

it's not a linear measure, an increase of 3dB represents a doubling of sound energy - eg 2x100dB cars doesn't equal 200dB, they'll make 103dB.

so geraus, 87.9 is a comfortable pass.

Just use this change to get a proper quiet/flowing exhaust made

spending money on a "fix" IMO is dead money.

Sell the exhaust you have, put that (and the "fix" money) towards the new quiet one and never have a problem again.

No swapping etc. Time is money both literally and laterally in fuel cost and time off work, swapping etc.

Over the course of 2-3-4-5-6 EPA's you'll soon see that doing it when you should have was cheaper.

I used to do the whole swap the exhaust thing. End of the day its a pain in the arse after a while :P

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo :-D

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
