just a little tip, if you're doing the major service DEFINATELY change the water pump. You can get away with using a stock rb30 pump (get one from coventrys), you just need to silicon up one hole. I've seen 5 rb25s waterpumps all fail at the magical 140000km mark, and to replace it you have to undo all your hard work, so whilst the belts are off you might as well.

Hi Guys,

A bit off topic. I've just got my 34 last February/March. It went thru compliance etc and up till now i've yet to service it. You guys reckon should i do anything to it - i.e. change oil filter, fuel filter, etc on that day?

Mostly gonna be coming to the venue just to catch up and observe : D

Do you know what type of oil filter to use?

Ryco Z145A would be the filter you would use.

In regards to the water pump, its totally up to you... if you want to another 40 000kms or so out of it then there is no need to do it.

Some poeple think its worth it, other dont.

Yeh, the Z145A is the oil filter, Repco is farely decent as well.

If you guys want, I might be able to get all the parts cheap from work. But I'll need a list of everything by Tuesday so I can ask.

And Hotchoc, its definately worth changing the oil. I might service mine on the day as well, may as well!

Hey mate,

If that's the case, count me in for the Z145A oil filter. Any idea how much it's gonna be ? I already bought a Motul oil so all should be fine. What else do you guys reckon i should check for?

Teo

Full service, you check EVERYTHING!! I do it for a living, so I dont mind chucking it up on stands and having a look. Look for any leaks, colour of the fluids, all the levels, check your brakes and tyres, diff and gear box oil, just about everything really.

So thats 2 oil filters so far. Anyone else need anything?

What car do you have mate?

k i got quoted from a friend at nissan today... $418... that gives you, timing belt, water pump, all seals and all bearings... is this good or bad... i was going to get it for $360 but seems prices have gone up... must be the oil in the bearings making it jump!!...lol

F#$king price rise on everything gives me the shits!... wheres my payrise!!!!!!!

Hey mate, what about Trust oil filter? My mate reckons Trust oil filters are pretty alright -$25 from Vision R from memory. He didn't have a pleasant experience with the Ryco ones. Last time i heard, the Ryco rubber broke right after he changed his oil and his garage ended up with oil, wasn't a pretty sight : D

Crivens!

Well, I would go the gates kit over the std Nissan one anyway, and it is a shizen load cheaper too. $260 with a power grip belt and $380 for the Racing belt, but you don't get a water pump (you get everything else you listed apart from the bearings?)

Exactly what "bearings" are you reffering to?

If it's put on properly it's not goin anywhere Teo. Like I told you before Ryco is more than good enough.

Edit: Don't forget to change your plugs.

When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
