What if i get a R34 25GT N/A. If i give it some mods like podfilter, extractors and catback exhaust how much extra HP would i get ? And would an auto box handle this. Also a stage 2 shift kit for the auto box will that be wise ? since i dont like the smooth shifting in normal auto but since R34 has tiptronic mode you can change at whatever revs you like ? Or does it still do annoying things like switching gears when you dont want, although automatic downshifts are nice.

Hmm sweet!

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT imposes no restrictions on the type of car that may be driven by a P plater -- P platers can even participate in an optional Road Ready provisional licence "P off" course that allows proven responsible drivers to remove P plates within six months of gaining a licence.

Guess ill be getting that GTT after all. :)

Btw how much extra fuel would the turbo car eat compared to N/A say if you are driving like a normal granny and not hitting too much revs / throttle.

turbo car when off boost uses less fuel then N/A. Scientific reason i can't be bothered typing when im already 5 minutes late for work

Google it

Yeah i read that before but is it hard to not hit the boost especially if its auto ?

Why you getting a Auto? I guess manual 34's are hard to find and they always want more money.

Yeah by the looks of things and what ive heard the manuals are usually more expensive, more K's and usually been more thrashed. And nothing better than using the tiptronic and sticking a stage 2 shift kit for harder and faster shifts on it because i think the tiptronics dont instantly change gears they think before the right time comes and switch then which can be a few seconds. Manual would be nice though so im learning manual for my P's now so just in case the time to buy one comes if a nice manual is available i can go for it, but is it 1 year before they give you choice of removing the auto restriction from your p plates.

AWW ok i didn't know you guys have a Auto restriction for your P plates, that's interesting and would really suck i love my manual auto's get so boring after a while, i get why though with some of the people around the Sunshine Coast can't wait to get to ACT going to be different and hopefully better and much colder! :(

dude throw that 18k into a managed fund....i got a n/a r34....i love it!! but im spending too much money on it for mods and all. oyu can say youll keep it stock ALL YOU WANT, but it wont happen haha. throw it into a managed trust fund or high interest savings account....id personally get some govt bonds....and watch your money ggggrrrrRRROWWW.

well..

n/a r34 now.....or r34 gt-r in a few years time?

take your pick.

yeah as hard as it is to say, shanil is right, i wish i had put my cash into shares or something first, now i have all these good contacts to invest with and no money to do it, even just put the cash away until you have your full liscence, hindsight is a wonderful thing, just remember at the end of the day it is your choice and im sure everyone will help either way you go.(yes i know thats not want you to hear, i was in the same position 6 months ago, lol)

zac trust me its colder all right, exspecially the drill practice from 7 to 8 this morning, the rain was a nice additive too, lol, why you moving sown mate

thanks alex,

share market is down in the red zone at the moment....that means two things....possibly it cant go down any further ... AND ... stocks and managed are great 'value' at the moment. I' throw my 18k into a bank account or some investment venture.

i've got an r34 n/a....as much as you mod it up, it doesnt present that thrill that a turbo does. you're looking at about 4-5k on top to get it to 140rwkw i rekn.

Yeah ill get a GTT. :D And dammit stop making me not get a skyline or ill be driving a starlet or a 3cylinder for 5 years. And if i did get the GTT the mods i would get would be 18-19" rims i wonder how much these cost ->

thats evo cams car i found in the photo section.

S004.jpg

and ofcourse some awesome soundsystem with a few speakers, subs, amp and thats probably the furthest ill go o and exhaust. :) Then maybe extractors, bigger front pipes hmm maybe podfilter and boost controller a ECU, pro tires etc.

But nah ill stop at the exhaust. :(

And currently my cash is in a high interest account and last month i got 38$ from interest for nothing, kinda good. If i have 18k in there it would be ~100$ a month from nothing, and if i keep working ill have 40k before i finnish uni then can move out :/. But if i get a car that will be like 5k at the end but would be worth it.

lol thats cool dude,

post up pics when you buy it...

yeah good wheels are expensive...

98 octane is 170 near my place now...so factor in 100 bucks+ a tank for refuelling.

You've got to decide what you want to do, but your going to pay through the nose with insurance, even if it's only third party. Be a shame to write off the car and get nothing.

Plus petrol as people have said, at one stage I was doing 20-25,000 odd k's are year in the skyline and it was costing me around 370$ a month in petrol. Would be over 400$ or so now if I was still driving it all the time(driving less now). So need to keep all that in mind.

just buy what ever you want and catch a bus its easier and cheaper and your precious line will be safe and sound all week until you let it out on the weekends

I couldnt handle driving another auto ever again, not cool. N/A is even less cool :worship:

But do consider your future ie house etc before you buy :S

I catch a frickin bus and it smells. 1.5hours + to get home from work and thats only ~19km away but using just as a weekend car is good since i work on sat and sun and the buses is shit and gotta cut my hours down.

Auto's are nice though :D I heard just get a 2nd stage shift kit on the tiptronic r34 and its all good to go but a manual is harder to find.

I calculated that 3rd party + rego (the human damaging 3rd party) is like 600$ and 3rd party property damage is an extra 480$~ per year. Not too bad. Just 3 weeks of work.

Fuel is a bitch so if i drive ~40km a day 7 days a week (usually never peak hour) it will be like 280km a week and i hope to drive like a grandma apart from the occasional road rage that happens. :)

And would it be possible to get those rims in second hand cause they looks heap sweet.

Bye

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
