Hi all,

I know there are many threads re the factory screent, but i have tried searching many threads - and cannot find a simple answer to the question im after.

The factory touch screen that the S2 Stags come out with - do they have an AV input on the rear of the unit??

What connector is it?? RCA??

i want to install a dvd/dvix player replacing the factory mini disk/radio deck with one that will pick up Ausie stations as well as be able to play DVD's and DIV'X's through the factory screen - and I have checked that the deck I want to get does output in NTSC.

I want it all neat and all cables at the rear of the units - I dont want cable from the front running to the rear??

If anyone has a pic of the rear of the unit it will be most helpfull!!!!

thanks!! :starwars:

there are NO AV inputs on the back of the screen, only wires. AV1 are the mini-plugs on the front and AV2 are the RCAs at the rear of the car. If you are handy with wiring you can rewire the video AV1 plug internally into an RCA plug coming out the back of the unit.

Thanks for your reply chook!! :w00t:

but I didnt hear what i was hoping to hear!! LOL

So my question now is - is it possible to do what I want to do....???

I never knew I had AV2 RCA's at rear of car?? where are they?? Is that an input for Video into the screen??

If so could I just run an AV cable from the back, up to the front and into my Video OUT of my DVD player??

yes, just run the RCA from your dvd through centre console, under back seat, under rear floor panel to left rear door pocket. There you will find the factory TV tuner on the right as you look in with RCA inputs on the bottom. You may have to remove shroud or CD stacker to access the plugs on the tuner. Use a good quality shielded RCA cable. Extra info here, in case you havn't seen, http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St....html&hl=tv

Now that is more along the lines of what I wanted to hear before spending cash for a new deck!! :D

speaking of that CD stacker - I havent been able to get it working - ahh well... wont need it when I can use my USB stick for music on the new deck!! :)

so that stacker will be ripped out anyways!!

cant wait for the weekend now!!

thanks again chook!! :w00t:

I also just changed to an ALPINE USB deck, no more discs.

FYI, I have found that a 4.0 meter RCA cable is the ideal length to run to the raer tuner.

i'll be trying to install the deck tomorrow.... i'v only had a quick look near the cd stacker - and cant see any way to take it out or get to the AV input......

do i need to take out that floor panel where the stacker is...???

i'll take some pics as i do it for any one else planning to do a similar thing....

remove center floor panels,

left floor panel,

rear black floor facia panel,

top side trim: remove rear seat release handle surround (pry out small button clip inside) , 2x10mm bolts (behind hangers), unclip top trim so its loose.

bottom side trim: remove 2 rear push pins, remove side flap door, remove clips on inner shroud above stacker.

Pull out lower trim so you have room to work.

Remove plastic inner shroud.

Remove cd stacker (3 bolts and a plug) and gently place in garbage bin.

You can now feel 3 RCA plugs under tuner, rear most plug is Video, then Right audio then left.

ok.... when organising a Wedding, you have sweet F**k All time to do anything else.... so i've been driving my car with everything dissmantled and no music/radio for a week..... (luckily i had the turbo to listen do :( )

but, i finally found some time last night and put it together.... and it works a Treat!!!!! Flick the deck over onto NTSC - turn it off, back on again for the NTSC to take effect and bingo!! DVD, DIVX, radio, etc....

Didnt have a chance to take pics last night.... but will try put some up today after work!!!

One quick question..... where's the best place/way to run a power cable for an amp....??? I'm thinking of putting a sub in the back... but couldnt figure out where to run the power cable through the firewall.... any suggestions...?? best/easiest way...??

Follow your accelerator cable towards the front right gaurd to the firewall where you will find

the big rubber boot/grommet, and push that sucka through.

Small hands helpfull here, then pull it though around the footwell area, under the carpet etc....

Or

Go from inside of the car to the upper right of the drivers footwell where you can just see the rubber boot/grommet and accelrator cable come through the firewall and push it through there, wander around to the engine bay side and pull it through. i did it this scond way and used a bit of coat hanger to hook the cable and pull it through enough to reach the battery.

Thought i'd post up a few pics of the final product.

Installing the deck is pretty much same steps as installing a deck and there's threads on it here.

The other pics are of where the screws are to take out the CD Stacker (make sure you gently place it in the bin :D ), and you can see i've half taken out the screws in the pic.

and another pic of where the AV input is for the screen, its in front of the CD stacker and I took a pic underneath of it which shows the RCA inputs.

Hope this helps others as Chooks instructions definitely helped me!!!

Fulock, are you able to play a PAL dvd thru this baby as is?

Yes I can! :(

the paused R34 in my pic above is from Too Fast Too Furiouse - that little 10mins clip at the start before the actuall movie starts....

Last night I was watching a divX disk full of TopGear!! :D

  • 2 months later...

i did the exact same thing today. Wired the headunit's parking brake wire to the earth so that it'll work with handbrake off.

However it seems the car has a sensor that detects when the car is put out of P or N... And turns the screen off when driving and just has a message on the screen (in jap, I assume says something like "screen disabled while vehicle in motion")

Does anyone know how I can make it so I can have the screen on constantly??? It's annoying cause I'm taking the car to Canberra in a few weeks and the DVD's there for my passengers to watch on the drive over and back.

The screen overide is quite complicated, requires a piece of aftermarket equipment, PM sent

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
