In ACT they currently have MY02 WRX'es active, saw one yesterday doin speed traps on a highway... just to proove they are still in use in some places :)

WRX Cop #1

WRX Cop #2

WRX Cop #3

WRX Cop #4

WRX Cop #5

The biggest joke of a cop car ive ever seen :D

Geez talk about wind resistance!!!!. Couldnt they have got some decent lights for it.

All cops need is a v6, put on the pressure call in a few more units and u bag a bad guy, or make him drive into a tree, whichever comes first. Most ppl who steal cars cant drive well anyway, otherwise they wouldnt be stealing cars right?

They have priority drivers, basically cops that are trained to be good drivers and are allowed to give pursuit have a priority 1. I think they have a few v8s for these guys still floating around. Also i hear that umm...section 6 (dont quote me) get em too. These are the guys who carry around big firepower and respond before they can get TRG together. So they usually need to get places fast.

Saw one of these cars out the front of fast eddies in the city, didnt see the cops i think they were in plain clothes. The sun was blasting through the tint and they had a big bag full of goodies that go bang on the back seat. Well i hope they were cops

I assume you meant unbiased opinion;)

That's what I gave .

Both cars are terrific but the Rex would be more forgiving and hence faster in inexperienced hands.

On the downside the Rex feels a little fragile compared to the GTR.

If I could get a '96 onwards 4 door GTR I'd trade the REX tomorrow.

man japan have nearly every performance car as a cop car!, remember that pic of a r34 gtr v spec in the cop colours of japan lol and i got a lil booklet with pics of all their cop cars, theres chasers, mr2's and shit like that :( good luck to the japanese and running from their cops :P

  • 1 year later...

In melbounre WRX cop cars have been around for over 5 years. About 4 years ago they were pretty common with most city police cruising around in them. Nowadays, its the outskirts of Melborune like up near the hills and stuff where a lot of guys go for cruises and stuff where they have WRX and Forrester turbo police cars, there nothing special, I seen many a undercover WRX here. Yes they had the HSVGTO cop car here too but thats not around any more. The police here have a Army of SS commodores and XR8 falcons. The undercover XR8s are spectacular, usually optioned up with the nicer rims and bigger brakes etc. Then you get the Highway Patrol cars which looks as if there something out of a computer game, with there custom paintjob and nice stickers, and they are MOSTLY XR8s. The cop who pulld me over in my skyline was a Undercover Traffic cop and he had a XR6 turbo.

They need these cars here otherwise they wouldnt stand a chance in catching guys. Ive been to some cruises here and theres heaps of Bogans in a Falcons, VNs, and VL turbos who will run if the cops even RIGHT up there ass. I mean, over in WA wed be scared of them getting our plates - over here, they dont give a shit if the cops right on there tail. Guys with 10 second VL turbos and stuff (100s of them) pretty easily get away and its only the guys who chicken out and stop that get caught. The cops need the quicker cars to at LEAST catch a few.

By Law, WA police has to drive AU cars.....

Yeah only car I've seen are executive commys, falcons, camry's corollas.

The camrys and corollas have police markings but no lights/sirens.

I once saw a VTSS cop car at a booze bus, I think V8s were ditched soon after.

They don't really need anything bar v6s. I mean they're hardly gutless, both putting out over 160KW now.... I've seen cop cars driven in anger and can't say with their training that i'd be confident in running from them.

Good to see the WRX bashing occurs in every forum, some people won't learn till someone who can drive one rips them hard. WRXs are very competent cars, you just can't drive them with no mercy like a silvia/skyline.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
