Hi all,

Just an idea, the article below is a link to one of the new laws that has been passed abt general public filming hoons,

Link here

The idea was:

Need a Import with a digital dash (mainly speedo), pretty much drive around and film all the hoons, eg, we stick to the speed limit (digital dash) and film the day to day drivers flying past. I think you could drive around for about an hour and get enough hoon activity. If we bombarded the police with footage, they would have to do something...

I think most of it would be speeding and just bad day to day driving, the speed is the best part, so many people do it in Perth, so since they think it's all down to the hoons, this could b a nice way to shut a few people up :)

Only downside abt proving the point is that everyone has to be a target. we couldn't just film everything but imports. Thats why if we stuck to 1 hour (rush hour morning, afternoon abt lunch or late arvo) we could get a more realistic difference in cars.

Anyone interested, this has been buggin me for a while, so now we can use there own tactics against them.

This could sound pretty evil to some people (i just read the post back :D ), but why not, could b fun proving a few people wrong

Steve

(Evil Minded People read below :P )

To add a bit more insult, i was thinking of doing a spoof Today/Tonight ACA type show. Sort of start off with the music, normal voiceover

"Hoons, there everywhere...."

in the background have shots of blurred out cars flying past....

bit more chit chat (this is still just an idea :bunny: )

then reveal the hoon footage to be the general public.....

This would b more work, but a lot more fun

Why doesn't the goverment use a small fraction of the money raised from speeding fines etc. to put real police on the road instead of getting plebs to do their jobs for them.

That legislation have been in place for over a year now...

I do not understand why you'd want to do this idea? You'd only draw attention to yourself as a smart arse.

Also... merely videoing everyday people who appear to be speeding would not really constitute as hooning. If that were true then every time an officer pulls someone over when doing road side speed checks, they would have to impound their vehicle.

Extract from Explanatory Memorandum:A member of the police service will be empowered to impound a vehicle for 48 hours where he or she reasonably suspects that the vehicle has been used in the commission of an offence against section 62A (wilfully driving a motor vehicle in a manner that causes a loud noise or smoke to be emitted from the vehicles tyres) or an offence of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, reckless driving or dangerous driving committed in circumstances of aggravation (i.e. the driver was racing another vehicle, attempting to set or break a speed record, testing the capability of the driver or vehicle, deliberately causing the vehicle to emit noise, smoke or lose wheel traction with the driving surface).

Extract from ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1974 (WA):

s 62A. Causing excessive noise, smoke

A person who wilfully drives a motor vehicle on a road or in a carpark so as to cause —

(2) excessive noise to be made with one or more of the vehicle’s tyres; or

(2) smoke to come from one or more of the vehicle’s tyres or a substance on the driving surface,

commits an offence.

Extract from the Second Reading Speech for the Bill that introduced the road rage provisions into the Road Traffic Act 1974 (WA):

"The bill removes the current requirement for police, when considering whether to impound the vehicle of a hoon driver for 48 hours, to have personal knowledge that there are grounds to impound the vehicle prior to doing so. For example, in a situation in which a police officer arrives at a scene after the impounding offence has occurred, the police officer will be able to impound a vehicle on the basis of observations from other witnesses, admissions made by the hoon and other forms of evidence. … This does not mean, however, that a police officer will be able to impound a vehicle on the basis of a malicious allegation made by another person. A police officer’s reasonable suspicion must be based on evidence that will stand up to scrutiny in a court. A vehicle will be impounded only on the basis of a civilian witness report if it is corroborated by other forms of evidence gathered by the investigating police officer."

nah, not smart arse, just trying to prove a point :( , since the media and gov are forcing this on the general public that hoons are the problem

theres always ways around not looking like a smart ass, by doing this properly

no one else had to be involved if they don't want the extra attention, and the idea of this video is not to say, "look, all import drivers are perfect" hahahahahahahahaha, wait a min.............

hahahahahahahaha.

but to show that hoons arn't the only problem. i'm still going do this, everyone backs down nowadays and just lets sh*t happen. every1 complains and nothing ever gets done. just need a bit of help with filming the speedo and cars in background, anybody with a digital dash? (your car does not have to be seen, would b filming from the back seat looking out the front, i'll even pay ur petrol :( )

I don't think it will make the slightest bit of different unfortunately.

but you can only try...

Wouldn't holding a phone for videoing your speedo and the driver be worse than talking on your phone whilst driving.....

nah, piece of cake :D (jokes)

just need a bit of help with filming the speedo and cars in background, anybody with a digital dash? (your car does not have to be seen, would b filming from the back seat looking out the front

i would film from the backseat of someone's car

that would b a good way to start the video, a shot of me trying 2 film others cars driving down the freeway whilst i'm filming (it's a big camera as well, would look so funny :D )

unless the whole thing was a parody of today tonight and your only objective was to take the piss?

That was my original idea, but i know that would not help (would b fun to make), but would just piss more people off, so if it was done properly, then it would make a better point

Ok i get the concept of what you are going to do.

But just tell me what outcome you want to get out of it?

IF it was to make an impact to the police, al they would do is get more cops off the real crimes and put them in patrol cars on the road with the instruction to pick anyone for anything no matter how insignifcant.

How does that help?

Be sure to film police officers speeding without their sirens on... way to lead by example officers!

just letting you know...

the police don't have to have their sirens on to speed...

i know it offends some people, just the way the law is...

seen a few officers turn their sirens on and speed through a few red lights and then turn them off and drive normally, lol a few times seriously, don't know why...

for a laugh haha i'd do it if i was a cop... anyway, i say do it for fun, and like Rhys said post it up for all of US to see... take it from there

    • To expand on this to help understanding... The bigger/longer the block is, the more it's going to work to sit on your far away high areas, and not touch the low stuff in the middle. When you throw the guide coat, and give it a quick go with a big block, guide coat will disappear in the high spots. If those high spots are in the correct position where the panel should be, stop sanding, and fill the low spots. However, using a small block, you "fall off" one of the high spots, and now your sanding the "side of the hill". Your little block would have been great for the stone chips, where you only use a very small amount of filler, so you're sanding and area let's say the size of a 5/10cent piece, with something that is 75*150. For the big panel, go bigger!   And now I'll go back to my "body work sucks, it takes too much patience, and I don't have it" PS, I thought your picture with coloured circles was an ultra sound... That's after my brain thought you were trying to make a dick and balls drawing...
    • Oh I probably didn't speak enough about the small sanding block for blocking large areas.  In the video about 3 minutes in, he talks about creating valleys in the panel. This is the issue with using a small sanding block for a large area, it's way too easy to create the valleys he is talking about. With a large block its much easier to create a nice flat surface.  Hard to explain but in practice you'll notice the difference straight away using the large block.
    • Yep I guessed as much. You'll find life much easier with a large block something like this -  https://wholesalepaint.com.au/products/dura-block-long-hook-loop-sanding-block-100-eva-rubber-af4437 This is a good demo video of something like this in use -    You have turned your small rock chip holes into large low spots. You'll need to fill and block these low spots.  It's always a little hard not seeing it in person, but yes I would go ahead and lay filler over the whole area. Have a good look at the video I linked, it's a very good example of all the things you're doing. They went to bare metal, they are using guide coat, they are doing a skim coat with the filler and blocking it back. If what you're doing doesn't look like what they are doing, that's a big hint for you
    • The odometer does go up when driving.  Does this tell it is an issue with the speedometer itself?    Where can I look for replacement cluster? Or speedo? I can likely do the repair.. Will ER34 cluster work on HR34? Or do I need a HR34 20GT S2 specifically lol
    • Mine's a bit bigger at 70x150mm roughly. The spots are flat, just can feel the edges if I dig my nail into it. I did fix some other other ones by both using my finger to sand that small spot (I'm a bit wary of doing this and creating hot spots and a bigger mess) and I also did sand over it flat and others, but this also worried me a bit because if I create an overall low spot on the panel on paint that is good.  Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as it's flat even if I can feel the edges, I can put filler because it will all be level once I sand it? I can see myself going in a circle after sanding guidecoat with 320 grit if for example the panel is flat with my hand but because I sanded the guidecoat I could have created a low spot again somewhere. Unless where I'm going wrong is what I mentioned previously where I didn't go low enough on the grits. It's 1 step forward and 2 step backwards here haha. I'll probably need to experiment with it more. Last time I go back to bare metal lol.
