ok heres my dilemma just got back from sydney international airport from picking up a friend, now i know your not suppose to pick up passengers from the departure section.

But! today is the queens birthday public holiday and it was 8am in the morning there was hardly any cars/passengers at the departure terminals so i told my mate to wait for me at the departure section since it would be nice and quick and saves me from paying $5 from just driivng in and driving out of the aiport car park.

and i only stopped for 1 min in total, stop pick up passenger and away i go and as i was leaving this lady(dressed as airport security/parking inspector) looked over to me and i have a feeling she wrote down my number plate, well she looked over to my car a few times and she wrote something down on her notepad,

now what im worried about is can they send you a fine in the mail? and what proof has she got off me picking up a passenger? and also i thought the airport is privately owned, can they even possible enforce their own law onto the public?

anyway i just hope the fine they send isnt gonna be some crazy amount.

im pretty sure you can be sent a fine

my dads been driving taxis and hire cars for 30 years now...

he always gets fines sent via mail for stopping in the wrong parts of the airport...

might be different rules for taxis and hire cars...but im pretty sure you can get fined in a private vehicle...

i say dont worry stress about it...

you can only wait i guess.

what proof has she got off me picking up a passenger?

Her word vs yours. A parking inspector vs a civilian. No different to any other parking infringement. Plus, being an airport, there's probably security cameras everywhere if they want to get anal about it.

thought the airport is privately owned, can they even possible enforce their own law onto the public?

Publicly-used but privately owned land can apply to get exemptions to issue infringements. The airport, being as big as it is, could easily obtain one.

They could also make it a "term and condition" of entry onto their property that you abide by their rules or suffer a financial penalty. At which point it becomes a battle between your lawyers and theirs about how enforceable it is....

I'm at International Departures fairly often as my G/F works there. I've only had good experiences with the parking people there. They seem helpful and friendly enough but are strict about the rules they're enforcing. I know for a fact you can get a fine for picking up passengers at Departures, as can you even at the Domestic terminal.

Down to their disgression I guess. Just like how I got a $132 fine last week for not parking parrallel with the traffic. Such a harmful thing to the council I'm sure...

you quite possibly have a find coming in the mail. yes they can fine you, and yes they can send it to you in the mail, and if you were breaking the rules it's quite possible they will send you one. it sucks but that's just the way it is. obey the rules, and if not accept that you can and will get fined if they catch you.

well ill just wait now and see if i get the fine. man it shits me how expensive parking is at sydney airport. how can they seriously think its fair charging you over $5 just to enter and leave after being in the carpark for 5 mins.

thats the last time i drive to the aiport, next time taxi

Its about traffic flow, common sense and revenue. Nothing more.

Here's why;

You had a choice of paying $5 or doing something and risking a fine.

You didnt pay the $5 and parked (in their eyes) illegally.

Now you're regretting not paying the $5.

So, the airport managers are "hedging their bets" so to speak, that most people wont risk a fine and will just pay the $5. Which in most cases, they will. This of course is a massive income stream for the site, and its something that will be around for quite some time, until they change it to $6, then eventually $7 etc

You could of course catch a cab, but come on, as if there's a chance that will cost less than $5

Just pay the $5, its easier that way.

Not being a dickhead - just calling it as i see it :P

someone is uppity today...

anyway, dude face it .. you focked up..lol

pray my friend, pray.

as the law states you are aloud to pick up and set down passengers where no parking signs are(not sure about no stopping tho). know at the airport they make up there on signs which are not rta/gov approved for unsuspecting people who they can throw a fine at and make more money and also send them to the carparks to make money that way too. i would just wait see if you get a fine. if you do, do some research and take them to court most case you will get off. go back to the airport take photos of where you parked showing signs etc. if they try and get you for taking pics tell them what your doing and they can't do anything about it.

You will more than likely get a fine in the mail soon. You are only allowed to drop off on the Departures level and pick-up's are now forced into the Macquarie Bank money pit  ( the car park ).

If you're thinking of fighting it, read the fine details carefully and remember that you're taking on Macquarie Bank.

its all bob carr's fault.

stuffed up NSW and left government. He's pocketing some portion of the airport's revenue for sure.

Iemma ain't doin any better though.

What is it with NSW having crappy premiers?!?

Bob Carr works for Mac Bank.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
