How ya doing guys, new to the site and hello to all,

Sins u guys down under have been playing around with Skyline alot longer than anyone here in ireland i taut it would be a good place to start asking ur views on what i should do next...

Engine as it stands it spec'ed as follows:

HKS filter

Apexi Plugs

R33 GTR FMIC

Japspeed turbo elbow and down pipe

Full hi-flow exhaust

Uprated fuel pump (have srad reg not fitted unsure of what pressure to set it to)

and mapped with HKS F-CON S

This is the power i ran (it was shout out mode so hopefulling u guys can compare)

Rollingroad2-1.jpg

I wanna run more power (as everyone dose) but im not sure what ta do next..

I was searching on here a good bit of info:

Was looking at Plazmaman Inlet but in my heart i know its only gona be for looks and im sure i could spend my money in other places n get more gains

cams n adj cam gear? (HKS or Tomei) looking at tomei pon cams lift isnt as much as HKS ones? (or GTR?)

Trubo wise... im totaly in the dark, RB25? hear there lagy on a RB20 but how lagy are they? and other good after market turbos out there???????????

Iv got a bit of cash to spend but id like the cash to power ratio to be good...

Any views or ideas ?

(just noted that i scaned the wrong dyno sheet meet to do the one with fueling mapped too its running a small bit rich up hi around about 10.8:1 at max power)

Have a look through the RB20 dyno results thread.

Cheapest way to get another 50rwhp is an RB25 turbo. Don't know if you have a tuner who can remap your ecu over there but that would help get rid of some of the lag.

My RB20 made 245rwhp untuned at 12psi through an RB25 turbo, was a LOT better than the stock turbo even with the extra lag.

Aftermarket wise I'd probably be looking at something along the lines of a HKS 2530 but you'll need to sus out who can tune your car, be it remapped stock ecu (which is what I have done) or full aftermarket.

Hey mate, as bubba advised I'd be looking through the RB20 dyno results thread up top of the forced induction modification section.

For a comparison i had my car on the dyno over 3 months ago with everything stock (motor, turbo, injectors etc) bar the following modifications:

- Hybrid type 600x300x76 FMIC

- gktech dump + front pipe 3"

- high flowed std cat :(

- 3.5" cat-back

- Apexi Power Intake

- Bosch 040 fuel pump

Without the boost touched i managed 159.0rwkw or 213.22whp running real rich AFR's and pretty flat through the mid-range.

My car will be placed again on the dyno tomorrow morning after having my std ECU remapped to suit these mods that touched up some ignition timing, lean up the fuel mixtures and got rid of a few restrictions. I'll update you soon.

If you want more power an easy upgrade would be to an RB25 turbo and add a little more boost. If looking for a lot more power for a lot more money go a 2530, bugger injectors and probably Z32 AFM with a new tune to suit.

Well i can get the Fcon mapped over here in ireland all bits have been done by myself mapped by a HKS dealer here in ireland....

Anyone know what RPM u get full boost using a Rb25 trubo? think im getting full boost at about 2750RPM with my current set up..... boost came up on its own using the Fcon as it cuts all limits think its around .8 bar

Hope to get HKS navigator also which will help with setting up....

As for cams?

yea agree with the other post, mine pumps out 300rwhp i have a to4e turbo externaly gated plazmaman intake plenum 550cc injectors aftermarket fmic pod filter 300lph fuel pump 3.5" cat back exhaust hi flo cat oh and after market exhaust manifold and a ems stinger 4 ecu piggy backed to a mines chipped ecu

So a GT2530 is a good ballence between response and power 200 - 220kw.

But to really bring the RB20 to life you should get a td06 kit 260kw ish. A bit laggy but really packs a nice punch.

In both cases you will need injectors.

RB25 turbos are only slightly better that RB20 turbos. You still have the same problem of ceramic turbo wheels which dont last long on high boost.

So what about a GT2535? or GT2540?

been loking at turbos on yahoo auctions need to find someone to get it tho....

Also plazmaman inlets? worth the money or better off spending the money on a set of HKS cams?????????

Bubba: what kinda lag are we talking about when using RB25 turbo??????????

So what ya's think? turbo or cams next? or any other ideas?

What is the budget? Personally i dont think the RB25 upgrade is all that brilliant, it needs a re-tune, and a few tweaks and the cheapest it will ever be is around a $1000 upgrade. But if thats the budget thats all you can really do.

If you have the budhet for more then 180rwkws then you are going to have to consider fuel pump (if you dont already haev one) and AFM (or an eco that doesnt require AFMs, injectors and a change to cooler and exhaust pipework.

The step to a turbo , even like the 2530 is considerably more money.

a set of 444cc GTR injectors or 555cc Nismo/other injectors and then add your turbo of choice.. 2530/2535/2540 are all good choices depending on what you want (response vs power)... will need aftermarket AFM too at this point... Z32 is ~$300

if you really have cash, i'd consider not spending any more money on this engine, and doing an rb25 / rb26 transplant.. The RB20 doesnt scale up as well as the other 2 engines, and the extra half a litre displacement is nice.

how ya doing thanks for the help lads............

Iv got about 2000dollars to play with....

3300RPM dont seam to bad for the RB25 trubo..... but if i can find a broker in japan for yahoo auctions im sure i could pick up a GT2530/35/40 for cheap.....

I want good usable power..... dont wanna be on n off boost when gunning it.... find my turbo runs out of go at about 6000rpm good any where from 3000 to 6000 tho....

Hey mate i have a friend who put a r33 turbo on his rb20. Deffinately wouldnt call it laggy. They gotta be the best value for money upgrade for a rb20 it you have a tight budget. Or you could always spend a little bit more and get a 34 turbo for that little bit of extra power.

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.
