Heyy..

been a while, busy with work...

Some minor repairs on the car, any help/info would be appreciated.

Need 2 get a new front bar... 400R.... any idea where i can get one from? insurance is paying for half through crash repairer (there were going to repair one side where i was hit, but might as well fix the whole thing, so ill just pay the difference). Should i just tell them the type and get them 2 find one?

Next, Just got new discs, and got this report from mechanic...

upper inner control arm bushes - missing/worn out URGENT

lower inner control arm bushes - not that bad

steering rack mounts - worn, steering arm moving

labour isnt an issue, but any1 with ideas on how much, n where 2 get them from?

and lastly, getting a petrol smell in the car, mechanic checked it, isnt leaking outside anywhere, n it was stronger in the boot, sait it might b a hose cracked or somthing...somtimes it goes away for a few days then comes back...very wierd...told me $300 to feed new hose through...any1 had similar thing?

thanks ppl!

cheers

vange

Re; bushes. since you're replacing stuff down that way, you might want to get adjustible bushes or adjustible arms incase you want to have that little bit more tweakability to yr suspension. best to replace any bushes that look worn while yr mechanic is in there (which it sounds like you are :D)

Re; fuel smell. it's probably one of a number of things. Either your charcoal cannister needs more charcoal, the fuel cap pressure valve isnt functioning right or the seal is worn, or your rubber fuel line is leaking fuel vapour but not liquid (this can happen with old rubber).

Best to replace the entire fuel line if you've never had it done before, thats probably what I'll be doing next service cause I have the exact same issue... probably will replace the charcoal too. Do you get a big 'psssht' of fuel vapour when you take the fuel cap off?

I have a mate who has a brand new (meaning not been on a driven car) 400R front bar that he is selling. It was trial fitted by the previous owner but he has never fitted it as he can't be stuffed getting it painted.

PM me if you want his number.

I had the fuel return hose go on me, little of smell, then starting pissing fuel on the deck at the servo as I was idling waiting for the tyre air.

1 metre of SuperCheap hose, a couple new hose clamps for good measure, and 30 mins of work it was all better.

Definitely not a $300 job unless metal lines themselves are damaged.

Vange i have my old front bar(modified 400R) bar sitting around at my mates joint, he has put a GTR front bar on my old car so if you want that look instead of a normal 400R bar let me know!! Has a slight crack but would be nothing to fix for the crash shop people, especially if you pay for the bar and the insurance is ok to pay for damages and paint to your original one!!

    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
