Still racing for pinks tonight Dan?

Should I come to your side of the country, or do you wanna meet over here? :O

you nearly had meeee?

srsly though it is good the police are educating themselves via our forums. Better than making uneducated claims.

Im glad that cops are floating around, maybe it will make people realise that the "Watch This Bro" term isnt actually cool, and that cars do kill people....

There are cops on netrider, you can even ask them questions!

I think it would be great if there was a section like that on SAU, maybe more mods would be legal, and people would understand the consequences of their actions if they have a run in with police..

I've never really been on NS.com...

so dare i ask: What makes them so bad?

The Signal to Noise Ratio on there is terrible. Its one of the biggest car forums in Australia, and so for the handful of guys you get who do have a clue, you get a lot of pre-pubescent idiots and so many hard parkers that FineLine would have a stroke.

I used to go through their technical forums for comic relief, when I was having a bad day and needed something to laugh at.

Its gotten better since when I was more interested in Silvias a few years ago and read the forum occasionally, but the reputation sticks.

I'd say an SAU sticker should be an advantage. We're a comparatively sensible bunch. We probably have an average age 3-4 years older than that of NS which helps. We're highly educated and good looking too.

^^ Love it :O

Seriously though, if you're going to be a d!ckhead... no sticker will save you (although the DC plated cars down here seem to be able to do what they want).

I must admit, being a tiny bit older than most of you... when I first started in these forums I was a little sceptical, but soon realised what a great, sensible bunch we have here and I thoroughly enjoy it when I get a chance to catch up with everyone.

Saying that, I got pulled over once when I left the gym... First thing cop asked me where were my P Plates? I told him I'm a 1/4 of a century old, I'm on my fulls and his tone just changed and all he did was give me a breathe test and off I went...

mine you, I don't have wnker sized rims, nor is my car loud. Good experience with a copper? I think so.

ok i can agree with what some of you are saying about NS. And yes i do agree we get ALOT of immature ppl on the forum who have just bought a sil and think they're gods gift to driving and go out and cut skids on the street. But there's ALOT OF US, who are more mature, who like organising meets and cruises, who like hanging out and chatting about being enthusiasts. And we're just as passionate about imports, and creating a good image of the import scene as you guys.

I have great respect for the police, alot of people who drive vehicles such as ours are complete assholes to them and anything they get is well deserved. I would encourage all members to be respect the police and remember the red and blue lights are not always bad.

I also believe its a good thing police officers patrol this site as its gives them a good insight to what is happening in the car scene and as mentioned SAU seems to have a good rep, which I think is great and commend the mods and members on good work.

I feel they need to do their job and if that means defecting people then so be it, we all know the risks and I feel making the police officers day as nice as poss is the best thing we can do for them. Dont forget apart from defects they also help greatly at putting the baddies away.

In regards to photos taken I dont particularly have a problem with it.

an advantage over no sticker / no visible affiliation? or an advantage over an NS sticker :)

i still have the feeling that a member of a car club would be viewed as more likely to be involved in modifications, and therefore worth 'checking out'

oh yeah? shit! im becoming a member next week then! lol

hmmm looks like the SAU sticker is going on..

Yeh had a cop take a snap of my engine bay, was wondering why and if i would have got it back in the mail with lil red circles saying please get RTA inspection lol hehehe

but its things like this skylines get a bad name and police pull us over

Those cars were stolen so I dont see why it should give actual owners a bad name - seems though the heat has gone off WRX owners onto skylines as the vehicle of choice for criminals.

The problem is, is that there's always a few people who ruin it. You know how the saying goes: "There's always a bad apple on the tree."

Yep, the minority causing a negative effect for the majority is something even we here at SAU are immune to. But like Adam said, most of us are a few years older and (somewhat) wiser, so hopefully the smarter attitude (as in respect the police, respect other road users, and respect yourself) filters down.

since our cars have been the crims choice of getaway vehicle, it would assume police would be more inclined to pull over a skyline than a type r or evo that fact alone would add to the reason skylines are seen as targets on the road. (in my opinion)

everytime i get stopped the first question i get asked

Is this car yours :S :S

one time im going to say no, Mcgyver built it for me out of 2 rubber bands, one paper, and a coconut !

lolll just to see his reaction hehehe

:)

six people, 2 skylines.

2 poor bastards were in the back... that's not very quick get away material...

GO BACK TO WREXIES! :D

lol I can imagine them trying to get away - stuffing around with the lever to move the seat forward then banging their head on the low door arch as try and get in the back. Then the driver that had to move his seat forward sits about 1cm away from the steering wheel as the skyline seats do not remember their original position. By this time the cops have shown up...

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
