Recently copped an epa violation, just got tested, im 10dB over :)

Exhaust dude said if i can find the flange for my exhaust (3in 4-hole, cant seem to find anyone who can tell me where i can find one), he'll weld the new muffler onto it, and i can just bolt it off and put the old one back on after its tested.

So therein be my problem, locating this flange. Ive had a suggestion that i cut all the flanges off and put standard 2-hole flanges in. Is this advisable?

Can you get something put in it to muffle (quieten) the sound a bit?

Well in theory yeah, and i've heard of people doing this, but not exactly sure how its done. And i imagine if not done correctly its just gonna spit out whatever i stuffed in there lol. And it also means i need to goto another tester :)

Anyone have any input towards this idea also??

why dont u just locate a factory cat back? or something quiet enough. bolt it on. get it tested, pass it and then put ur old one back on.

Thats an option i hadn't thought of funnily enough... But sadly, i dont know if my exhaust mod is cat back or turbo back (performed prior to recently purchasing). I'll take a look tomorrow and see if its a viable option

regardless of if its a turbo or cat back, just replace the catback with something quiet. that way its a easy bolt on and off when u pass the test.

and if u ever run into this trouble again you can just do it again. all you need are jacks or a hoist.

Im just a bit worried about this strange flange. Maybe the entire exhaust setup has these strange flanges, and i wont find anything to get onto it

the flange only applies to the muffler i believe.

catbacks all have a standardized connection these days. just take it to a local exhaust shop theyll be able to tell u wat it is.

Well thats a good start, but whats the chances of finding a catback exhaust thats cheaper than a muffler itself?

Except next time you get caught for the same EPA violation its $1000's in fines.

Just replace the cat with a stock one, surly your running a 3" or bigger and its more flow the stocky doesnt flow well at all.

You may wish to look at a EPA tune too (tuned to meet epa standards)

Any welding shop can plasma cut a flange, all you'd need is a gasket for a template. Buy a peice of 3/8" x 5" square plate and cut it out yourself, cost $2.00 and couple of hours.

All you'd need is a pencil, center punch scribe, hammer, half round file, and a drill with a small bit.

    • Impossible to remove the housing while turbo is installed on the manifold on the engine. So I have to do it anyways. I plugged it so there will not be any debris in there. Will vacuum aswell 
    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)    
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways. 
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
