I tried to find interest in this a while ago and got none - but here goes nothing...

I'm buying some more oil from www.performancelub.com and was just wondering if anyone wants to jump in on the same order to cut down on shipping?

I'd imagine if we'd probably bring it down to about

$10 per order shipping for 2 people

$<7 for 3

$5 for 4

etc

i'm in kangaroo point brissie and am happy to arrange the order and then have people pick up from me or i'll even deliver if you're nearby.

i'm also down the gold coast a bit too, so anyone down there is welcome to jump in.

Doubt your going to feel a performance gain changing oils, the hype is around the protection it is claimed to give your motor

It's all relative, I've always used middle shelf oil under stupid conditions...my engines have always lasted beyond what you'd expect for them. 350,000Kms on a 4AGE living on the redline most of it's life, 160,000kms on an RB25DE+t when that was stolen it wasn't blowing smoke or showing any signs of oil related problems....it must have seemed OK, the dodgy dealer down NSW seemed to think it deserved a rewind back to 35,000kms

I doubt there would be any bennefit over most average to premium oils out there, especially the amount of K's most people here drive....just a brand price premium people pay.

legend dan! let me know how you go

sorry, haven't kept an eye on this thread over the last couple of days.

i checked quantities for qualifying for a group disount with performancelub - 48 quarts...

not sure if we can get that amount of interest.

last time i bought oil i spent abut $160 i think getting 5 quarts of royal purple and 5 of redline. shipping for the extra 5 quarts (10 total) only added about $3 to the original $20 i would've paid for shipping 5 quarts.

i think if you change your oil every ~5000kms, and don't hammer your car every weekend or whatever, you can definitely stick with mid-range oil without really missing out on anything.

i'm using redline for now cos i'm not sure what used to be used in my engine, and i figure a few cycles of redline will help clean the system, and then i'll probably drop back to a cheaper option.

motul 4100 turbolight (its 10w40)

cost... hmm car has been off the road for 9 months so haven't bought recently

but from memory its around $40 (for 4 liters!)

Repco sells the 10w 40(semi synth) for $48 for 5 litres, thats what im using atm

Thinking of changing to 5w 40 (full synthetic), $68 for 5 litres, although not sure if i want to fork out the extra evrey 5000kms.

Im tempted to jump on board this buy for some plugs if possible, wanting some iridiums for the next oil change, not too keen on doing the copper plugs every 5-10000 kms and they seem to have decent prices on them

haha - haven't bought oil in a long time ok

last time i bought i bought a lot and then car was off the road for 9 months

so give me a break :P

ps. +-$25 for 0.946L is a rip IMO :D

$25 - Aikona!

How did you work that out?

Royal Purple works out to be $13.30 per liter vs Autobarn Logan City $18.00 Per liter

Shipping should be around $5 per order so $67.75 for 5 quarts shipped it was $89.99 last time i got it at Autobarn

I would probably use $7 in fuel to get to autobarn anyway!!!

somecrazyexxyoilcosyourcardeservesthebest:

$25 for 0.946 litres = $26.42

My Girlfriends family is, and from that suspension tech day you gotta be or possibly zim?

So the $25 one im guessing is the redline?

I am going to buy Royal Purple which which works out to be $5 per liter cheaper than anywhere else I have found

    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
    • -10 is plenty for running to an oil cooler. When you look at oil feeds, like power steering feeds, they're much smaller, and then just a larger hose size to move volume in less pressure. No need for -12. Even on the race cars, like Duncans, and endurance cars, most of them are all running -10 and everything works perfectly fine, temps are under control, and there's no restrictions.
    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
