Hi Guys,

Deciding btw a pair of R33 N1's and HKS 2530's.

Currently running a fairly stock R33 GTR with around 230awkw's.

Question is i have never been in a quicker can than mine before, how good of a feeling is a 320awkw car compared to say 380awkw's?

Who here has 320 kw's and is happy with it? I have got bored of my current power within 3 months, would i get bored of 320 just as quick?

R33 N1's aren't the best choice there dude, so you wont be as happy as you could be IMO with that response choice.

R34 N1's/GT-SS/-7's are the true pick of the bunch for 300-330, especially on a stock motor. R33's werent the best design... better than R32 of course, but not as good as the R34 :)

If its a streeter, then the response combo is sensational, power everywhere & anytime with response as factory.

I mean 230 will loose the plastic easy enough, 330 further again :)

I've been in the 2530/-5 GTR's a bit on the street, and its just license loss territory before you can even really make use of the turbos. They are really great but id go the response given ive seen both setup's on a few cars and run GT-SS myself (RWD tho).

The gt-ss/-7 cars just feel like big N/A's and not turbos as they make the mumbo so early.

Depends what you use the car for overall also as another thing to think about.

You get used to it all and get bored...

I was in the same situation as you, but since then have jumped into a few higher powered cars and know that over time I would get used to them too..

Im sticking with my guns and "hoping" for 300-320 atw out of my -7's, im sure Il get bored of it after time but I know it will be quite some time before I can fully utilise all that power...

Looking forward to other people's responses. Not going to lie, I've asked myself this plenty of times and still do.

I have that sort of power with 2860R-5's

"...I've been in the 2530/-5 GTR's a bit on the street, and its just license loss territory before you can even really make use of the turbos...."

Agreed, your toying with a hooning charge if you really want to wind up -5's on the street.

I find power that you can't use annoying personally.

Refer above

"You get used to it all and get bored... "

afraid so...speed is addictive. If you go for the -5's/2530's you might want to invest in some track time to make use of them

Well predominantley i use my car on road, and with the intention of attending track days every couple of months.

Nismoid, interesting that you say the R34 N1's would be better is this the "Group A" spec turbo which has 0.64 housings? or just the Normal N1 Turbos?

I can get a pair of fairly good R33 N1's with no shaft play for aroun $800 so its seems like a good path to take maybe?

Although it seems that GT-SS's (2860R -7)'s would be capable of higher hp approx ~ 20kw more than the N1's and would be new too..

The more i research the more i realise that perhaps i should just get these turbos and be done with it, i mean if i go past 340 - 350 awkw's then im gonna have to start doing internals anyway so its probably for the best that i just stay at the 320awkw mark for now.

As i said i cant really say for sure since i have never been in a car this powerfull, but going on what others with that power figure have said so far it surely will be a substantially greater feeling of power than i have currently.

You can pickup brand new -7's for $1300ea or there abouts.

Spending the extra coin on new ones over 2nd hand ones, that are a better turbo anyway, is worth it.

And I didn mean GrpA R32 items (.64), R34 N1's are better than the R33 N1's. They are not the same turbo.

If you dont have a built motor, dont chase the power and stick to 300 or so.

SS's are a great street turbo. Very responsive. I have a brand new set for sale if you're interested in Sydney for $2700.

It's all about the tune.

I have 2530's with 330kw in my white gtr and it is great on the street, but certainly license loss material by the time you get to a decent rpm in any gear.

My grey gtr has 230kw and I literally don't even bother driving it fast because it's honestly boring after you have driven with 330kw. It's slightly more responsive but you don't get thrown into the seat as much so in the end you just don't bother driving it as hard.

I am running a pair of N1 GRP`A's on a built R33 motor in an Autech Stagea. Its a heavy car and the turbo's a bit laggy. Pulls like a train though. Car currently running just over 500 at the rears. 22psi.

Like all things you will get used to it. Make sure the motor can handle it first, do it right.

I have 215AWKW in my R34 GTR, will be ~250AWKW when I fit HKS EVC soon.

Even with 215AWKW I find it hard to use all the power on the street, ie: put your foot down in 1st and into and through 2nd and you are already heading towards licence loss territory, if I go through to the top of 3rd gear, lol.

Do you really think you need 320AWKW?? Fair enough if you are going to do heaps of track days I guess.

Yep, intention is heaps of track days! :) thats why im after response.

really tempted to buy a pair of r32 N1's which would be perfect for my power figure.. only issue they are 17yo. might be too much risk compared to new 2860's?

^^ I wouldn't be going with a pair of 17 year old turbos lol. The person who's selling them to you has probably taken them off to put a nice set of brand new GT-SS's on his :)

+1

Old turbo's don't even think there ball bearing, dated technology..

Just get a nice set of -7's, Have a look around you can find these cheap, i got mine for under 2k...

Hope you got all the supporting parts for the car to get it through track days.

Brakes, oil cooler, catch, clutch, tires etc..

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
