gday guys,

done some quick searching and havent found a definate answer.

i was wondering, does the r34 airbag (gtt or gtr) fit on the r33? and if it does, will the airbag hook up properly?

my reason for this is change is that the s1 r33 gtr steering wheel is hideous, and i cant stand to look at it another day.

thanks

stef

Hey mate,

Ive also looked into this for the same reason as you.. the 33 GTR steering wheel looks terriable.

No one could give me a defiante answer. But they said it may be possiable but they couldnt see the air bag working...

If you hear anything else plz let me know

Yer it will fit right on only problem is the airbag wont connect up as the R33 has an extra "unit" behind the airbag which then connects into the loom. R34 doesnt have that extra piece and connects directly in. But yer as for the steering wheel itself it will bolt directly on.

anyone looking at a s2 wheel for an s1 may also want to look at a steering wheel from a n15 SSS pulsar as they look identical to the r33 s2 wheel. and i would guess that the spindle size would be the same too, but can't confirm this.

hey guys, dont wanna be a party pooper, but changing steering wheels that have air bags, whether hooked up or not is a huge ADR (australian design rules) complience no-no, and if the cops in your state are smart enough, they can permanently defect your car. Have seen supra drivers buy air bagged steering wheels to instal into earlier models not having airbags as standard including all compulsory units and very few engineering workshops in perth (i can only speak for perth) will touch the case. So chase this up with your transport authority departments or risk having massive fines and also having insurances on your vehicles revoked. well, sorry again

I'm no electronic genious but wouldn't fitting a different model airbag to car only require that the deployment modules from your car be connected to the new airbag?

I mean the modules are what actually deploy the airbags not the airbag itself, as long as the resistance (i think that's what it is) from the 2 airbags are the same then this would work and if they weren't it would only be matter of fitting resistor or something to wires of airbag to give same resistance

Meh i could be totally wrong though but will be something i delve into with my electronics guru when i see him next

    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
