Hey all,

I've kinda got to the point now where i've got to decide whether to keep modding my 32 gts-t or consider it finished. I think the car's potential was always limited (due to it's age and my budget).

When i got it the car had:

Apexi pod filter

Custom mild steel cat-back with Xforce cannon.

Unknown aftermarket shocks (pink in colour.. were on the car when imported apparently)

GTR Wing

GTR front bumper (missing lower lip)

Now the car also has:

Custom box and cold air intake

Greddy FMIC

Turbotech boost controller (set to 15psi)

R33 GTR Fuel pump

RB25 turbo

JustJap split dump pipe

Xforce HiFlow Cat

Greddy PE2 Catback (replaced droning Xforce)

Locked HICAS

18" DTM Wheels with Federal 595's

GTR Front lip (painted black to match car)

Midnight express tinting

MOMO Race steering wheel

nismo shift knob

6 speaker mp3 stereo

I've also ground and bogged a small amount of rust, and removed the aftermarket radio antenna the previous owner cut into the car

I've had the car almost a year now and i'm pretty happy how it's developed. Question is, what (if anything) do i still need to do to it?

I'm considering strut braces and maybe some slotted rotors... but not sure it's needed. It might be time to just start saving for a new beast. What do you all think?

dont waste time with a 25, if you want save for an R34 Gtt, or a 32 GTR, depends on your budget.

But it sounds like your happy with the car as is, im sure youd be happy to further mod it, but if your not craving it might aswell stop and save for bigger and better :P

No point in building a 30 unless you are already up for a rebuild. They are however, a LOT of fun in a 32gtst.

If you like the car and plan on keeping it, give it a much needed power upgrade, dropping a 25 in there is the smartest move

drop the boost down to 12-13 psi, 15 is just blowing hot air?

at least get a safc2 then u will have a decent power upgrade

after that its pretty much done for stage 1

next step is turbo upgrade along with supporting mods or engine swaps

can sell it and for the price of a engine swap u can pick up a r33 (best bang for buck cars imo)

stronger box, phatter engine, modern interior

32 GTR or 34 GT-T pending budget is also very nice!

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
