nope, i dont think so.. no insurance i guess. i haven't even made a police report, there's this whole window between 23rd dec and now when it happened, i dont know when. I dont really mind not having the frame back, but i do want my wheels.

should i make a report? and what can i do if i spot the guy riding my bike?

can i like nudge the guy with my car?

hey thread revival here.

@ marc - I'm kinda thinking about building a bike... i have no reason to do so - i have a good bike as we speak and it flies along... but... i just want to build a bike...

in saying that, i want another single speed... my caad5 optimo frame serves me very well and nobody can keep up with me on it... so i simply want "another bike" by getting an older frame, POSSIBLY painting it and adding my own PROPER componentry to it...

but not your average "fixie" componentry... ie... no flat bars, no Velocity wheels, no fix gear, no brooks saddle ...

i'm thinking bits like tektro aero brakes cannondale headset san marco saddle truATV cranks etc - new school parts on an oldschool frame

the frame i can attain, is a raleigh pro-am 1980's build... looks to be in good condition... 54cm steel frame with vertical dropouts...

my question is -

do you think it's a DUMB ASSED idea to "build a bike"? (your bias against single speed aside)

do you think that a raleigh pro-am frame would be a good frame to start with?

build your frame if you want to, just expect to shell out a hell of a lot of coin if going all new. my guess is that going all new the parts would add up to somewhere around $1000, maybe more depending on brands used, as well as where they are sourced from.

and what is wrong with velocity wheels? or aren't they a good enough brand name for you? just peel the sticker off them and put some other brand name sticker on them if you don't want to be seen with them. unless you feel like shelling out a heap of money on a set of easton wheels, or to a lesser extent mavic (i prefer easton over mavic unless you are spending lots and lots on wheels, but that is just my personal preference).

that is my whole point with fixy riders. they disregard what is good to get what is cool. road bike riders aren't much better.

velocity wheels are great - i'm not disputing their quality! never have never will - except over here out west one of the comp riders cracked a wheel on a pot hole and broke his neck due to an accident last year

not cool

i *may* go velocity wheels it's just that i don't want a bike that will obviously blend in with hipster fixie riders...

orritey i'm gonna do it - and i'm gonna build for a lot less than a grand!!!!

FYI

my bike was $1790 rrp

if i can build for less than the 1,100 i paid for it, i'm wrapped.

marc is right.. .road bike riders are stupid snobs.. main reason why i ride alone is because i hate being judged on my pieced together Felt F95 because it doesnt have a carbon frame... they see the number on the frame and judged it and me from that.. stupid road bike riders.. go ride your $10000 orbea orca and eat your stinking pancakes.. hope you get heartburn and reflux on the 2km ride home.

also - the current fork is built to take a 27" wheel... will that take a 700c fullsize?

i'm confused between the modern 27 inch measurement and the french 700c..

is there even a difference?

yeah they will fit. 27" rims are actually a fraction larger than 700c (i'm talking a matter of a few mm). you should still be able to get the brakes to work too. just have to be carefull on tyre choice, but since you will be running road tyres you won't have much of an issue there.

what shits me off the most about roadies is that half of them are riding bikes that are 10 years old but have 9 speed dura ace running gear, but they will say that the new 105 gear is shit, yet it is pretty much just dura ace from about 3 or 4 years ago, so it's better than their old dura ace crap

hahaha... chris king FTW!!

haha too true marc, or roadies that *ABSOLUTLY MUST HAVE* the latest groupset because its way more betterer than the last years stuff... hence why you get ebay bargains.. and as far as weight saving... there is not much weight to be saved between sora, 105, and ultegra... theres about as much weight difference in them as in in a pair of ankle socks vs long socks.. SFA..

eps.. havent you seen the pancake eating cyclists?? man you need to get out.. they are along every beach front.. where the road is flat. they all pull up on their latest model Look or Time bikes... with all the trimmings.. and clip clop in and eat pancakes...

oh and eps.. heres a pic of my absolutle favourite bike, which was pieced together from ebay and farken.net.

identiti dr jekyll frame, race face cranks, snafu pedals, e thirteen chain ring, sun double wide rims, hayes disc brakes, dirt jumper forks, etc, etc.. all up cost around $500... worth over $2000 if you were to buy it all brand new.

i used it for d/h as i wasnt comfortable on a dually at the time.. felt awkward.. i like my hardtails.

*Attaches flamesuit for uploading my bike*

500 bucks u say... u guys seem clued up about ths stuff can i call on u guys for parts advice??? i found a 80's vintage cannondale dedicated track frame in good nic so going that route instead of some dodgy road frame

There's my ride, bitches. haha yes I just copy+pasted goodle images result...

2007 Norco A-Line Park edition. Amazing bike. Great fun for urban riding too, be it down to the local shops or into the city. That being said, very impractical. Tyres and suspension are an absolute killer if you actually need to pedal :( still great fun popping onto the rear wheel, finding balance point, and cruising down the street....

And you thought a SKYLINE would bring in the jailbait >.>

riding position was spot on for downhill and big jumps... dont sit down much of the time there.. and the angle with the 4" dirt jumpers was spot on for me.. i had bigger 5" pikes on the front and it had too much rake.. 2.5" fronts and 2.3 rear tyres.. the thing was bombproof.. unfortunatly i wasnt.. had a big crash and fractured alot of bones in my left side... bike didnt even look like anything had happened.

aye trozzle... A-Line ftw!!.. i had one of them 2 bikes before the identiti above... it was a build up from scratch aswell... a-line frame and bomber forks, race face northshore crank, hayes 9" discs... etc etc.. nothing truvativ on it. haha. i didnt like it when they changed to colours in 07 though... i was going to buy a brand new one but they didnt do them in black anymore

yes very impractical but tooks tough as all f$%k.. really want a specialized demo 9 in army green or the metallic red now.. they are getting a bit old so i should be able to scoop one up and start building again.

Specialized_Demo_fullside.jpg

or a sinister R9... hell yeh.

i just love the motocross style bikes they look phat as.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
