dirt cheap (40% off).

Just going back on this Mad082

I think this will be the style of bike i go for at christmas, might annoy you in a few months to see how it is all going and where you got it from etc. I have also seen the 2010 model going for just over $1700 at bikes.com.au so kinda hoping that will come down close to the 1k mark near Chrissy, no doubt there will be heaps more new bikes between now and then but this one keeps looking better and better and at 12 kilos i think it would be sensational! :-)

The more i look at it the more i like it!

Would this be ok for street riding to and from work plus the occasional squirt on a mountain?

i think i have the bike bug :-) now that i have sold my skyline it looks like other than the gym this is now my hobby!

Yeah, I have a specialised fuse 3.

I don't really ride it anywhere, I put it in my car then take it somewhere and then ride it, even then it's just over a couple of jumps then i sort of sit there and have a smoke and wait for the other kids to go.

Hangin' out at the bike jumps smokin' cigarettes with all the cool kids yo.

i got it from apollo bikes (the australian wholesaler). you may have missed the bit about how i own a bike shop, LOL.

as for the 2010 model being down around $1000 by xmas, i highly doubt it will get below about $1400. the 2010 model will be old stock by then and more than likely there will be none left. the 2011 stuff comes out in about 2 months time, and judging by the way the dollar is going at the moment, the new stuff will be more expensive than the current stuff, so that will be a big halt on any price reductions of old stock as they can run it at full RRP and still have it be cheaper than the new stuff.

Thanks Mad082

*Oops* Yes i did miss that bit :-) Still reading through all the pages and looking at your info on the forks etc. This is the beauty of this forum even though this thread is in wasteland and people where mean to Mr Eps this thread still has a lot of REALLY good info for really keen noobs in the bike world such as myself.

Hmmmm no wonder why you have so much info .... your surrounded by bikes!

I will prob annoy you then closer to christmas then to see what bike arond the 1k mark you would recommend.... stay tuned :-)

ugh... rudd has NOTHING to with the global economy...

rudd's tax has not been introduced. think of the economics game as a HUGE soccer pitch... a HUGE one... rudd is the guy that puts the ice blocks in the gatorade to give to the water boy.

Rudd is not the reason the global economy has shifted. this motion that it's "his fault" was just a scare tactic by the opposition to get him out of power because it's an election year. the media has picked it up as a figure to blame and ran with it...

as for the bikes 25GTT... if you have the bike bug... then PLEASE take a road bike for a ride first... just see what it's like - how it differs etc... your next bike is (should) be one that you're going to use for a couple years (i hope) so by all means shop around see what you like!

that said

2010 brought some very cheap bikes to aus... and when they "come down" in two / three months time... they'll be cheaper still but don't expect huge 40% discounts or anything this year i think...

check out TBE on gt eastern hwy they have a MASSIVE shop and let you test ride ANYTHING you want!

actually 2010 brought us expensive bikes. 2009 brought us expensive bikes. before the dollar crashed in 2008 bikes were much cheaper than they are now. that taos c that i got in, origianl 2009 model rrp was $1899. 2 months later when the dollar crashed the price went up to $2189 (about 15%). the 2010 model is $2599 and pretty much all that is different is the colour and the grips. with the dollar dropping at the moment i'm guessing prices will rise again by about 10%

25GTT

seriously man

if you're looking into getting a new MTB for the new year... and have a budget of about a grand

i literally have a like new condition giant alias. sitting in my garage. it's not carbon framed but it's a bloody nice piece of kit ;-)

if you wanted it i'd be happy to let u have it at a nice price... they retail for what... $1400?

marc - confirm?

i'm not trying to offload my trash onto you i'm just saying i have a very unused bike that is not GOING to be getting used in the forseeable future... ;-)

Cheers Eps,

Will google it and check it out :-) Prob interested more around near xmas so if it is there then i will have a bit of a look... will have to be good coz i am still in love with that Taos C bike! ;-)

I do know though that Giant have an exceptional name behind em so thats always good.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
