Alright here goes.

So like three weeks ago I drove to the bank, got my money out for my new car, was driving home (had a passenger as well), 2 second lapse of judgement and I ran up a curb, spun a 180 onto another curb and clipped out a metal double headed light pole which fell down on another car pulling out of the city farmers driveway on walter road.

No one was hurt except for me, I had a cut nose and bad, bad headaches/migranes for the next two weeks or so.

I picked up my new car that night and didn't drive it for like 2 days so scared.

The gherkin was a right off:

EDIT: pics are rally bad as they were just off a camera phone

PS I'm starting a saturday job at Belmont Park/Ascot aka Perth Racing this friday. They're desperate for staff so send them ur resume. I got the job over the phone and they told me to bring my bank details in and starts straight away and it's only 11am - like 6pm

  • 4 weeks later...

Only had one. In my Mum's Mazda 6. Pouring with rain doing 80 down Marmion Ave at like 1am while having not been on my P's very long (definitely in need of more experience). Ended up aquaplaning and then over-correcting which led to me doing 360's down the road until a went into a kerb and a small street sign sideways. Wasn't going too fast by this stage, but the front quarter panel had a nice dent in it and I took a decent chunk out of the rear alloy rim. Fortunately insurance company said I could keep my no-claim-bonus and everything because there were 'outstanding weather conditions' and no other cars were involved.

Sorry I don't have any pics, but there wasn't much to see. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

welllllllllllll i was on my p-plates and yea showing of to my mate on oakover in east freo there is a little hill what you cant see over i went to take over a 4wd parked on the side of the road and there was a car on the other side speeding too.... my instincts swerveed me off the road and into a tree =[

  • 1 month later...

Was on my way home after work and it had been raining, I turned a corner and she slide out, got away from me and became close friends with a light pole..The roads here are made for Hot Dry weather so when it rains they get very slippery, also since the accident i found out there was a big oil spill on the road where I crash a couple years ago, and every time it rains the oil comes out of the road.

This is actually the second Skyline I have written off...The other was a mates R31, driving down to Adelaide. About 67k's out of Port Augusta I fell asleep driving and come off the road into the bushes at what we can only guess was around 180kph, bounced back accross the road and down the bank on the other side.

So very lucky in both cases!

I've been in three accidents - only one which was semi my fault!

First - 5 Car pile up, I was car number 4 on Risley Street heading towards leach highway, saw the cars in front slam on their breaks, slammed on mine, before I knew it the chick behind me rear ended me and then threw my car into the car in front. The cars in front of were piled up and stupid b*tch caused me to join it. A year later she changes her story that I didn't break and was on the phone and that she saw me rear end the car infront first putting it at my fault? Um, what the? But whatever.

Second was a stupid truck running me off the road cos he's an asshole and decided to scrape the entire side of my car with his 'road truck'! Long story...

Last accident was nearly two years ago, I quit smoking on New Years, decided I was going to buy a S15, picked it up on the 10th of January on a clear sunny day. Next day got in the car to go to work, it had been raining all night. Turned right onto Bullcreek Drive heading towards Leach Highway, Lights were green and I assumed I wasn't going to make it so I just headed towards the lights pretty damn slowly, got to the lights, they were still green, slowed down into third (it was a 6sp) turning the corner at 30kms an hour, if not less, I went to accelerate once I was straight, rear end kicked out so slightly I didn't even feel / see / or notice it, before I knew it, there was the curb, the grass, a freeway sign and then a damn power pole.... I was going ever so slowly though, airbags didn't deploy, had like 10 witnesses all rush to my car and ripped me out of it, two minutes later ambulance, police and the works! ....12 hours of owning a $30K car... I cried for weeks because of the poor car!!!

No injuries, no fines because all of the witness's couldn't believe it even happened but damn insurance company wrote the poor car off even though it was only cosmetic and the damn radiator needed replacing! Stupid Insurance Company!!!

I learnt my lesson the hard way - it doesn't take a dickhead of a driver to get yourself, your car or anyone else hurt, freak random accidents do occur so why bother putting yourself at any further risk???

5 Months later was the first time I drove in the rain after the accident, I was terrified!!! Took me a few more weeks of winter before I felt safe and comfortable on our wet dangerous roads!

Dry Country + Rain = Oil rising to the surface = Deadly!!! Don't risk it!

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
