Hey guys

got my hands on some second hand bilstein coilovers to suit a 33 gtr. they have helper springs on the front which are eibach....and the other an unknown spring (see pic).

first question....are these good for a track only gtr?

obviously i need to have the spring rates checked and the whole things looked over. where's the best place and around how much am i looking at?

thanks

the best place in sydney to get the springs measured and the shocks tested is bilstein/heasmans in tempe. they are excellent.

http://www.bilstein.com.au/'

http://www.heasmans.com.au/bilstein/contact/index.html

as for how much it costs, give them a call. and just from looking at them they are pretty heavy springs, up around 10kg/mm or more I'd say.

They look familar... Can I guess you bought them from a guy in qld? If so then I think you will find they are about 14kg/mm.

You can just get some lighter spring rates and have them revalved to suit providing the internals are still in good nick.

First job, read the numbers embossed into the Bilsteins, around the shock body, down near the lower mount. Should be something like B46------

Second job, read the following thread, measure the main springs and I will work out the spring rates for you.

thanks in advance gary

(didn't take spring off)

coil od: 85/85mm

wire od: 12mm

# of coils: 10.25

Bilstein shock number: 0701 B46 2108 HO

let me know the result.

cheers

365lb/inch (6.5 kg/mm)

That Bilstein part number is for a rear shock for an R33GTR

If that's the rear spring rate then it's too high for a track car on "R" type tyres, let alone a road car. It's an OK rate for a front spring on a track car, but a little high for a road car.

Cheers

Gary

thanks gary

i'll try to measure the front springs shortly.

how will the helper springs effect the situation?

what would your target spring rate be front and rear for a track only gtr?

is the shock a good platform to start from? or should i be looking at a whole new setup?
